Doch im Gegensatz zu seinem Kollegen im Amazonasgebiet ist der Nil ein schwacher Fluss, dessen Wassermenge \u00fcberwiegend von der Regenzeit abh\u00e4ngt. Seit dem Bau des Assuan-Staudamms ist es m\u00f6glich, die \u00dcberschwemmungen des Flusses zu steuern, die Sturzb\u00e4che der Regenzeit aufzunehmen und den Rest des Jahres das Wasser des Nassersees umzuverteilen. Nur: W\u00e4hrend der Wei\u00dfe Nil ihm die L\u00e4nge verleiht, erh\u00e4lt er mehr als zwei Drittel seines Wassers vom Blauen Nil, der aus dem \u00e4thiopischen Hochland kommt. Seit 2011 wird an der sudanesischen Grenze zu \u00c4thiopien an einem 175 Meter hohen Staudamm gearbeitet.
