Contant le parcours d\u2019un jeune adolescent juif de Galil\u00e9e de la fin du XI<sup>.<\/sup> si\u00e8cle qui devint l\u2019un des grands iconographes de son \u00e9poque, l\u2019auteur suisse n\u00e9 \u00e0 Ankara fait l\u2019\u00e9loge po\u00e9tique, mais incarn\u00e9, de la beaut\u00e9 des peuples et des hommes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la suite de la critique (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est un ouvrage qui aurait pu s\u2019appeler <em>La consolation<\/em>. En ce qui concerne Avner, jeune p\u00eacheur d\u2019Acre dans la Galil\u00e9e de l\u2019an 1079, se rassurer de la rudesse de son p\u00e8re et des Lois dont il se fait le gardien. La consolation, il la trouve d\u2019abord dans un environnement. Celui du monast\u00e8re o\u00f9 le jeune Juif livre du poisson et re\u00e7oit en \u00e9change une outre de vin et des figues enrob\u00e9es de sirop. Les premiers chapitres de <em>L\u2019homme qui peignait les \u00e2mes<\/em> forment un savoureux tableau o\u00f9 la d\u00e9couverte des arts (le chant, puis bient\u00f4t les ic\u00f4nes) va de pair avec la d\u00e9couverte du transcendant, et o\u00f9 les balbutiements de la sensualit\u00e9 font \u00e9cho \u00e0 l\u2019initiation \u00e0 la sexualit\u00e9. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs dans les bras de Myriam que le jeune Avner va avouer son d\u00e9sir d\u2019apprendre l\u2019iconographie et donc de devenir chr\u00e9tien tout en admettant qu\u2019il n\u2019a pas la foi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00abToutes ces histoires de miracles, de bont\u00e9, d\u2019amour, de foi en l\u2019homme que lui racontaient Thomas ou Anastase lui semblaient invent\u00e9es pour faire autrement que les Juifs. Les Chr\u00e9tiens voulaient para\u00eetre doux l\u00e0 o\u00f9 la Torah \u00e9tait intransigeante. Pour les ic\u00f4nes aussi, Avner avait le sentiment qu\u2019Anastase exag\u00e9rait. S\u2019agissait-il vraiment d\u2019\u00e9criture? Ce qu\u2019il voyait \u00e9tait un dessin, des personnages, des \u00eatres r\u00e9els\u2026 Mais peu importait quels mots utilisaient les moines. L\u2019essentiel \u00e9tait la consolation que procuraient les ic\u00f4nes.\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>La consolation, c\u2019est aussi celle que le jeune talentueux d\u00e9sormais baptis\u00e9 offrira par la suite aux nombreux p\u00e8lerins venant lui demander de dessiner leur visage. D\u2019apr\u00e8s les canons chr\u00e9tiens, une ic\u00f4ne ne se peint pas, mais s\u2019\u00e9crit, car elle rel\u00e8ve de la foi autant que de la technique et elle n\u2019est pas \u00e0 proprement parler une repr\u00e9sentation artistique; elle est un objet divin. Mais Avner, devenu \u00able Petit Anastase\u00bb gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la transmission de figures paternelles aussi bien chr\u00e9tiennes que musulmanes, a cette particularit\u00e9 de peindre non pas ce qu\u2019il y a d\u2019humain en Dieu, mais ce qu\u2019il y a de divin dans les hommes. \u00abCe n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le Seigneur qu\u2019il offensait, puisqu\u2019il amenait le bonheur. C\u2019\u00e9taient ceux qui s\u2019arrogeaient le droit de parler en son nom.\u00bb Un chemin tout droit trac\u00e9 vers l\u2019h\u00e9r\u00e9sie et l\u2019expulsion.
