Tel fut l\u2019\u00e9tat d\u2019esprit partag\u00e9 par bon nombre de Parisiens le 15 avril 2019, lorsque la cath\u00e9drale de Notre-Dame de Paris s\u2019embrasait dans la panique g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Jean-Jacques Annaud (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0091605\/\">Le Nom de la Rose<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt7134194\/\">La v\u00e9rit\u00e9 sur l\u2019affaire Harry Quebert<\/a><\/em>) en propose le r\u00e9cit, sous une forme strictement chronologique. Aux allures documentaires, la fiction nous plonge dans un thriller qui colle aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements. Le nez dans sa soupe, le r\u00e9alisateur manque malheureusement de perspective.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la critique (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Notre-Dame Br\u00fble - Bande-annonce officielle HD\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YlDXdPSEtgk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stoppons tout de suite les sp\u00e9culations les plus folles. Annaud ne livrera aucune \u00abv\u00e9rit\u00e9\u00bb sur les causes de d\u00e9part de l\u2019incendie. Le d\u00e9but du film \u00e9voque plusieurs pistes: un m\u00e9got incandescent, de vieux produits inflammables laiss\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019abandon, la v\u00e9tust\u00e9 de la charpente et le manque d\u2019entretien. Fid\u00e8le aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements, le r\u00e9alisateur d\u00e9ploie les points de vue, les circonstances hasardeuses \u2013 parfois invraisemblables \u2013 qui ont men\u00e9 \u00e0 la destruction de la fl\u00e8che de Viollet-le-Duc et entra\u00een\u00e9 une br\u00e8che dans la vo\u00fbte centrale du monument. De la touriste am\u00e9ricaine aux combattants du feu, le temps s\u2019\u00e9coule et le drame s\u2019accentue. Le spectateur est pris au pi\u00e8ge de l\u2019instant, comme les pompiers le sont par les flammes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>La premi\u00e8re vingtaine de minutes de film se d\u00e9tache de la tournure catastrophique \u2013 faudrait-il dire apocalyptique? \u2013 et angoissante de la seconde partie. La premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 d\u00e9crit les alentours de la cath\u00e9drale et la population incessante qu\u2019elle brasse du matin au soir. A travers les plans successifs, l\u2019histoire de Notre-Dame se d\u00e9voile\u2026 et s\u2019invente: les chiffres \u00e9nonc\u00e9s par les guides ne sont jamais identiques, le ton de la mise en sc\u00e8ne est parfois ironique envers les visiteurs arm\u00e9s de perches \u00e0 selfie. Les plans s\u2019\u00e9puisent \u00e0 scruter les recoins de Notre-Dame: les vues panoramiques se multiplient, les travellings et le montage rapide insufflent un rythme \u00e9blouissant et enchanteur au film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La ferveur sans l\u2019audace<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Puis, la narration bascule du point de vue des soldats du feu. Tout au long de la fiction, on ressent le respect du r\u00e9alisateur pour ces hommes et ces femmes qui se sont retrouv\u00e9s en premi\u00e8re ligne. Fruit d\u2019une longue enqu\u00eate men\u00e9e par les \u00e9quipes d\u2019Annaud, l\u2019itin\u00e9raire et les actions des pompiers sont m\u00e9ticuleusement rapport\u00e9s. L\u2019impossibilit\u00e9 d\u2019intervenir imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 cause de la densit\u00e9 du trafic autour de l\u2019\u00eele de la Cit\u00e9, le sauvetage malencontreux de la Couronne d\u2019\u00e9pines, le flou des d\u00e9cisions prises par Emmanuel Macron\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Une complexit\u00e9 qui n\u2019est pourtant jamais abord\u00e9e \u00e0 distance; le spectateur est mis sous tension, absorb\u00e9 par une bande-son tonitruante et des images de reconstitution de la cath\u00e9drale en feu. L\u2019effervescence prend aux tripes et ne nous laisse aucun r\u00e9pit.
