Tout \u00e0 coup, voil\u00e0 qu&#8217;arrive au cin\u00e9matographe un ovni du genre, une \u0153uvre \u00e9minemment novatrice, renversant les codes du biopic. <em>Barbara<\/em>. Cela se voit d\u00e9j\u00e0 sur son visage, emprunt d&#8217;un perp\u00e9tuel \u00e9tonnement. Le cin\u00e9aste fran\u00e7ais ouvre constamment les yeux en grand; peut-\u00eatre est-ce l\u00e0 le signe d&#8217;un cin\u00e9ma qui admire tout ce qui touche aux hommes, \u00e0 la vie, au cin\u00e9ma en somme, et qui donc s&#8217;admire lui-m\u00eame. Mathieu Amalric ne pouvait faire un film biographique conventionnel. Ni faire un film biographique tout court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Barbara<\/em>, sorti la semaine derni\u00e8re sur les \u00e9crans romands, d\u00e9roge \u00e0 son titre: ce n&#8217;est pas la chanteuse que le film met en lumi\u00e8re, mais bien une com\u00e9dienne, Brigitte (Jeanne Balibar), qui doit interpr\u00e9ter Barbara dans un film. Le r\u00e9alisateur de ce film dans le film? Yves Sand, un f\u00e9tichiste de Barbara, incarn\u00e9 par un certain&#8230; Mathieu Amalric. Un film \u00e0 au moins deux niveaux, qui joue sur les ambigu\u00eft\u00e9s, si bien que la mise en ab\u00eeme et l&#8217;illusion semblent porter sur elles-m\u00eames. Grandiose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L&#8217;art de la suggestion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hors de question, cependant, de penser que le film ne nous apprend rien sur Barbara. Ou qu&#8217;il n&#8217;est qu&#8217;un pr\u00e9texte pour que la paire Amalric-Balibar redevienne un couple gr\u00e2ce au cin\u00e9ma. <em>Barbara<\/em>, en refusant de raconter la vie de la chanteuse comme on pourrait le faire sur un <em>power-point<\/em>, dit plus que ne pourrait le faire n&#8217;importe quelle biographie.&nbsp;En effet, c&#8217;est par les petits fragments de son quotidien que l&#8217;on parvient \u00e0 p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans l&#8217;univers intime de l&#8217;artiste. C&#8217;est par cette s\u00e9rie de tableaux, et non de sc\u00e8nes, que se dit une existence, et non un th\u00e9\u00e2tre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cumulant les ombres et les non-dits, le film&nbsp;<em>Barbara<\/em>&nbsp;fait \u00e9cho \u00e0 la chanteuse Barbara plus finement que tout ce que l&#8217;on aurait pu imaginer. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Mathieu Amalric, nous red\u00e9couvrons l&#8217;importance de la suggestion.&nbsp;<em>\u00abC&#8217;est beau, quelqu&#8217;un qui cr\u00e9e une m\u00e9lodie, qui cherche les paroles. Ce sont ces instants-l\u00e0 que j&#8217;ai voulu montrer\u00bb<\/em>, expliquait le r\u00e9alisateur je ne sais plus o\u00f9. Barbara passe ses journ\u00e9es devant son piano. Dans la musique, pour la musique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>On comprend que c&#8217;est par les chansons, et elles seules, que Balibar et Amalric (BaliBARBARAmalric) ont tent\u00e9 de rejoindre l&#8217;id\u00e9e qu&#8217;ils avaient de Barbara, de la repr\u00e9senter, de l&#8217;\u00e9voquer. Ce ne sont d&#8217;ailleurs pas les titres les plus connus que le long m\u00e9trage met en valeur. De plus, la voix que l&#8217;on entend est tant\u00f4t celle de la fausse Barbara, tant\u00f4t celle de la vraie, et les visages qui la portent varient eux aussi entre les deux femmes. Actrice et artiste se r\u00e9pondent et se confondent, d\u00e9gageant une \u00e9motion totale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jeanne Barbara<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Le plus grand m\u00e9rite revient en effet \u00e0 celle qui, finalement, ressort comme la vraie vedette du film, la nouvelle Barbara. Jeanne Balibar, plus Jeanne Balibar que jamais. Comme l&#8217;a dit Yann Moix lors du premier \u00e9pisode de la nouvelle saison d&#8217;<em>On n&#8217;est pas couch\u00e9<\/em>, sur France 2, \u00abBarbara a des airs de Jeanne Balibar.\u00bb Le jeu est si parfait et si naturel, que l&#8217;on se demande si en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 Mathieu Amalric n&#8217;a pas choisi de consacrer son huiti\u00e8me opus \u00e0 la m\u00e8re de ses deux premiers enfants. Loin de l\u00e0. En vertu de la dissemblance manifeste des deux femmes, le spectateur, comme par enchantement, ne va voir au cours du film que leurs points communs, et il finira m\u00eame par ne plus faire la diff\u00e9rence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C&#8217;est l\u00e0 toute la magie du cin\u00e9ma. Mathieu Amalric, sans minauderie, aura r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 nous en montrer la puret\u00e9.
