Musumeci<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00abIt's a long and complicated story.<br \/>\n- We've got plenty of time.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>The faces masked by a dark, thick dust are those of the soldiers in the trenches in 1918. Fatigue, fear and misery fold them into their blue uniforms. A single contrasting look is as self-assured as it is self-satisfied, lifted by the smoke of a cigarette: Lieutenant Pradelle (Laurent Lafitte). His ardor drives him to send men to the slaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Among them is young Edouard (Nahuel P\u00e9rez Biscayart), who secretly draws caricatures of his superior, and an older accountant, Albert (Albert Dupontel), who hides his comrade's drawings. In the midst of a German attack, the latter finds himself trapped under the ground, panic-stricken in a bomb blast, with the corpse of a horse. His companion saves him heroically, before being ejected by a bullet. His face is disfigured and bleeding. The shape of his mouth is cruelly obscured by the absence of a jaw. From then on, the two friends are inseparable.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Une histoire simple<\/h3>\n<p><em>Au revoir l\u00e0-haut<\/em> ne pose pas de grandes \u00e9nigmes. Contrairement \u00e0 la r\u00e9plique d\u2019incipit, l\u2019histoire est plut\u00f4t simple. Il y a la guerre, un mauvais lieutenant, un homme mutil\u00e9 de sa face qui s\u2019est fait d\u00e9clarer mort \u00e0 sa famille et deux anciens combattants d\u00e9pourvus de ressources pour s\u2019en sortir une fois revenus \u00e0 la vie quotidienne. Cela suffit pour rendre la trame profonde, tout en demeurant l\u00e9g\u00e8re \u00e0 porter.<\/p>\n<p>Le film collectionne les drames politiques comme individuels, mais ne manque pas de burlesque. Panoplie de masques, grain de l\u2019image, tonalit\u00e9s anciennes, pas de danse et musique exub\u00e9rante animent le contexte macabre de l\u2019apr\u00e8s-guerre. Certains \u00e9pisodes racont\u00e9s en simultan\u00e9it\u00e9 \u00e0 la s\u00e9quence par le narrateur donnent m\u00eame l\u2019impression de transporter dans le temps le style du\u00a0<em>Fabuleux Destin d\u2019Am\u00e9lie Poulain<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>De la po\u00e9sie \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cran<\/h3>\n<p>Le qualificatif de <em>fabulous<\/em> sied tout autant aux deux \u0153uvres fran\u00e7aises. Le spectacle \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re y cr\u00e9e un tel effet. La po\u00e9sie dans l\u2019expression des masques est guid\u00e9e par un jeu th\u00e9\u00e2tral, lui-m\u00eame, accompagn\u00e9 par des violons dans les moments d\u2019\u00e9preuve ou le son entra\u00eenant du saxophone lors des f\u00eates. Le jeu des couleurs participe \u00e0 l\u2019association des arts. Notamment les bleus, des v\u00eatements militaires aux yeux d\u2019Edouard, s\u2019\u00e9tendant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ses clairs habits princiers et ses masques fantastiques qui lui offrent \u00e0 nouveau une expression.<\/p>\n<p>Complet dans toutes ses sc\u00e8nes, le jeu des acteurs sert de socle \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9logieux tableau dress\u00e9. Seules leur mesure et leur incarnation du personnage permettent au long-m\u00e9trage de ne pas tomber dans le pi\u00e8ge du th\u00e9\u00e2tre film\u00e9. Laurent Lafitte r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 retransmettre le sadisme du lieutenant t\u00e9m\u00e9raire et opportuniste par son sourire \u00e0 la fois volage et indiff\u00e9rent face \u00e0 la souffrance de ses pairs. Nahuel P\u00e9rez Biscayart, dont la beaut\u00e9 est mise fortement en valeur en d\u00e9pit de la blessure d\u2019Edouard, donne \u00e0 voir au spectateur un oiseau bleu et gracieux dans les mouvements de son corps.<\/p>\n<h3>Une \u0153uvre pr\u00e9cise<\/h3>\n<p>Albert Dupontel, quant \u00e0 lui, unit bien ses diff\u00e9rentes fonctions. En plus d\u2019\u00eatre le r\u00e9alisateur et le co-sc\u00e9nariste avec Pierre Lemaitre \u2013 auteur du roman homonyme, prix Goncourt 2013 \u2013, il imprime dans Albert Maillard, qu\u2019il interpr\u00e8te, sa marque d\u2019approche. C\u2019est en effet lui qui a la charge de narrer le r\u00e9cit et d\u2019y ajouter quelque comique commentaire. Par ailleurs, son jeu est excellent dans la mesure o\u00f9 ses balbutiements, r\u00e9p\u00e9titions, mouvements de l\u00e8vres ou sourcils engendrent son caract\u00e8re intime et curieux.<\/p>\n<p><em>Au revoir-l\u00e0 haut<\/em> tient en plus pour m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre pr\u00e9cis dans les plans qui le font. Suffit-il de repenser \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il qui s\u2019ouvre, d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9 sous un tas de terre, ou au <em>travelling<\/em> angoissant dans les tranch\u00e9es. Aussi, le parfum \u00e9manant des \u00e9motions ne tire pas artificiellement les larmes. Enfin, l\u2019humour montre un visage honn\u00eate. Il ne trahit pas le r\u00e9el, mais le po\u00e9tise.
