However, Ronit decides to return to England to pay tribute to her father. There she meets up with her childhood friends Esti (Rachel McAdams) and Dovid (Alessandro Nivola), who have since married. However, the community's welcome is cold, even icy, as they reject the New York rebel, blaming her for abandoning her father, the community's leading figure. Indeed, it was Esti who sent for her former friend in the hope of seeing her again and rekindling their old passion, never extinguished in the heart of the pious young woman.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Le film du r\u00e9alisateur chilien Sebasti\u00e0n Lelio est inspir\u00e9 du livre \u00e9ponyme de la romanci\u00e8re anglaise Naomi Alderman, qui, comme sa protagoniste, a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de ne plus vivre dans la religion juive orthodoxe de sa famille. Ronit nous est tr\u00e8s vite pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e comme une rebelle, qui n\u2019h\u00e9site pas \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 son oncle, \u00e0 casser les codes vestimentaires et les m\u0153urs de la communaut\u00e9. Toutefois, son temp\u00e9rament rel\u00e8ve plut\u00f4t de l\u2019effronterie que de la v\u00e9ritable d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance ; la jeune femme, la trentaine d\u00e9pass\u00e9e, agit telle une adolescente souhaitant s\u2019affirmer. La femme qui d\u00e9sob\u00e9it, c\u2019est Esti, d\u00e9fiant l\u2019autorit\u00e9 religieuse et maritale \u00e0 la recherche de soi. Ce n\u2019est donc pas Ronit qui vient agir comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment perturbateur externe et pervertir la femme soumise, mais bien cette derni\u00e8re qui souhaite retrouver son amour de jeunesse et provoquer l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre soi-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<h3>Le prix de la d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance<\/h3>\n<p>Le film s\u2019ouvre avec une allocution du rabbin sur le libre arbitre, propre de l\u2019Homme : les anges d\u00e9nou\u00e9s du Mal suivent la volont\u00e9 de Dieu, tout comme les animaux qui ne font qu\u2019\u00e9couter leurs instincts bestiaux. L\u2019Homme, lui, a le choix entre le Bien et le Mal. Esti, elle, n\u2019a pas choisi de na\u00eetre dans cette communaut\u00e9 qui a vu son homosexualit\u00e9 comme un Mal \u00e0 soigner. Le retour de Ronit prend des airs de jeunesse perdue, d\u2019adolescence laiss\u00e9e en suspens. Les deux femmes ont un comportement d\u00e9phas\u00e9 face \u00e0 leurs sentiments : elles se cachent derri\u00e8re un mur pour s\u2019embrasser, retrouvent les endroits o\u00f9 elles ont v\u00e9cu leur histoire pass\u00e9e. Mais Esti r\u00e9alise l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 de cet amour d\u2019autrefois.<\/p>\n<p>Si le long-m\u00e9trage ne tombe pas dans la niaiserie, c\u2019est justement gr\u00e2ce au r\u00e9alisme des r\u00e9actions de chaque personnage : lorsque Ronit propose \u00e0 son amie de la suivre \u00e0 New York \u2013 ce qui aurait constitu\u00e9 le <em>happy ending<\/em> parfait \u2013, Esti refuse. Il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019une passion passag\u00e8re, ni du grand amour : l\u2019enjeu est plus grand, c\u2019est la lutte pour \u00eatre soi, pour \u00eatre libre d\u2019aimer qui l\u2019on veut. Une grande tendresse lie les deux femmes, leur relation \u00ab sonne juste \u00bb, elle n\u2019est pas surjou\u00e9e, elle est naturelle. Le spectateur, immerg\u00e9 depuis le d\u00e9but dans cette communaut\u00e9 isol\u00e9e, se sent de retour dans la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 lorsque les deux protagonistes vont \u00e0 Londres. Cette sortie redimensionne le regard sur la relation des deux femmes.<\/p>\n<p>Le trio, autrefois ins\u00e9parable, s\u2019\u00e9clate d\u00e9finitivement lorsqu\u2019Esti avoue avoir embrass\u00e9 Ronit \u00e0 son mari Dovid, en lice pour \u00eatre le successeur du rabbin d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9. C\u2019est donc un double d\u00e9sespoir que nous suivons : celui d\u2019un homme trahi par sa femme et celui d\u2019un rabbin qui commence \u00e0 douter de sa foi. Sous des tons r\u00e9solument gris et sur une bande-son surprenante, voire d\u00e9cal\u00e9e \u2013 compos\u00e9e par le musicien anglais Matthew Herbert \u2013, le spectateur assiste \u00e0 un r\u00e9cit riche et complexe o\u00f9 chaque th\u00e8me est trait\u00e9 avec pudeur \u2013 et quelques lenteurs. Les soupirs rythment cette histoire avant tout humaine qui parle d\u2019un amour interdit, de la recherche de la libert\u00e9 et du retour aux origines. <em>Lovesong<\/em> (1989) de The Cure, que Ronit et Esti \u00e9coutent lorsqu\u2019elles se retrouvent, r\u00e9sume \u00e0 merveille <em>Disobedience<\/em> :<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab Whenever I&#8217;m alone with you<br \/>\nYou make me
