This is exactly what Margarethe von Trotta has done in <i>A<\/i><em>\u00a0In search of Ingmar Bergman. <\/em>An unsurprising document whose main interest lies in the discussion of the Swedish director's cinematic legacy, and in the way we enter his world head-on.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Il faut comprendre la complexit\u00e9 de l\u2019homme avant son cin\u00e9ma. Voil\u00e0 ce qui semble rapidement \u00eatre l\u2019angle d\u2019attaque principal du documentaire. Margarethe von Trotta s\u2019int\u00e9resse d\u2019abord \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont certains artistes ont entretenu une relation singuli\u00e8re avec l\u2019\u0153uvre du r\u00e9alisateur aux trois Oscars de meilleur film en langue \u00e9trang\u00e8re. Un documentaire d\u2019abord ennuyeux parce qu\u2019une esp\u00e8ce de louange continue de la mani\u00e8re dont Bergman a chang\u00e9 le cin\u00e9ma. Comment la Nouvelle Vague fran\u00e7aise a par exemple puis\u00e9 dans son \u0153uvre cin\u00e9matographique pour r\u00e9volutionner les codes du septi\u00e8me\u00a0art. D\u00e9j\u00e0 vu, d\u00e9j\u00e0 entendu, rien de passionnant.<\/p>\n<p>Un r\u00e9alisateur qui a tourn\u00e9 sans concessions et de toute son \u00e2me avant tout le monde. Car oui, il a mis en images ses angoisses, la violence et son enfance qu\u2019il a eue ou qu\u2019il n\u2019a pas eue. Personne ne le sait vraiment, sauf lui. Un cin\u00e9ma qui sortait ainsi du r\u00e9ducteur format des grands h\u00e9ros, si r\u00e9pandu \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque des premiers films d\u2019Ingmar Bergman\u00a0: constamment \u00e0 la limite du r\u00e9el et \u00e0 la cassure de l\u2019imaginaire. Peu \u00e0 peu, au fil des entretiens avec les actrices f\u00e9tiches \u2013 qu\u2019il filmait d\u2019une mani\u00e8re merveilleuse \u2013 et la famille de Bergman, Margarethe von Trotta d\u00e9gage un portrait assez intime de l\u2019homme. N\u2019oubliant ni l\u2019\u00e9vocation de sa tyrannie ni son s\u00e9jour en institution psychiatrique apr\u00e8s une d\u00e9pression.<\/p>\n<p>Le document devient plus int\u00e9ressant quand Daniel, le fils d\u2019Ingmar, parle de l\u2019enfance qu\u2019il n\u2019a pas eue et de la difficult\u00e9 qu\u2019avait son p\u00e8re d\u2019\u00eatre adulte et responsable. C\u2019est alors qu\u2019on bascule dans l\u2019homme plut\u00f4t que le cin\u00e9aste. On apprend qu\u2019Ingmar Bergman a longtemps cach\u00e9 de nombreux fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs, issus de passions sans doute, d\u2019adult\u00e8res peut-\u00eatre, \u00e0 sa famille \u00ab\u00a0principale\u00a0\u00bb issue du mariage avec Kabi Laretei.<\/p>\n<p>Soudain, le portrait devient plus critique et moins \u00e9logieux tout en sautant sans cesse entre les faits de la vie de l\u2019homme Bergman aux films r\u00e9alis\u00e9s \u00e0 ces moments clefs de son existence. Un va-et-vient constant entre la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et l\u2019invention tout \u00e0 l\u2019image de ce qu\u2019\u00e9taient les films du r\u00e9alisateur su\u00e9dois\u00a0: du r\u00e9el fantasm\u00e9. Comme il l\u2019a \u00e9crit lui-m\u00eame dans <em>Laterna magica\u00a0<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00ab\u00a0Faire un film, c&#8217;est pour moi planifier une illusion dans le moindre d\u00e9tail. C&#8217;est le reflet d&#8217;une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 qui au fur et \u00e0 mesure que s&#8217;\u00e9coule ma vie, me para\u00eet elle-m\u00eame de plus en plus illusoire.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sans convaincre compl\u00e8tement, <i>A<\/i><em>\u00a0la recherche d\u2019Ingmar Bergman<\/em> d\u00e9voile n\u00e9anmoins une partie du myst\u00e8re d\u2019un r\u00e9alisateur fuyant, par exemple, du jour au lendemain de son pays, bless\u00e9 dans son orgueil, col\u00e9rique, avec l\u2019impression d\u2019\u00eatre pourchass\u00e9 par ceux qu\u2019il a aim\u00e9s le plus\u00a0: les Su\u00e9dois. Aupr\u00e8s desquels il est toujours revenu derri\u00e8re la cam\u00e9ra. Un portrait d\u2019un r\u00e9alisateur voulant \u00eatre auteur tel que les grands de la litt\u00e9rature. Un b\u00e9mol majeur ternit encore le documentaire\u00a0: aucune envie de voir un film d\u2019Ingmar Bergman \u00e0 la fin de la projection. C\u2019est un peu frustrant puisque nous aurions voulu mieux conna\u00eetre l\u2019\u0153uvre du cin\u00e9aste.<\/p>\n<p><em>Write to the author : <a
