At least his music, and his ability to sell phenomenal quantities of copies: Johnny Hallyday's fifty-first and final studio album was released posthumously on October 19, 2018. With 780,177 units sold while the album topped the sales charts,&nbsp;<em>My country is love<\/em> was the best-selling album of all time in France! But it's from an artistic point of view that we must praise this opus. Here we listen to and present a work that is more vibrant than ever.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la critique (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<p>Enregistr\u00e9 en partie \u00e0 Los Angeles au printemps 2017 alors que le chanteur se savait d\u00e9j\u00e0 atteint d\u2019un cancer du poumon, puis quelques mois avant sa mort \u00e0 Paris,&nbsp;<em>My country is love<\/em> porte tr\u00e8s mal son nom. Il devrait s\u2019appeler: <em>Mon pays c\u2019est la vie<\/em>. Car ce que cet ultime album d\u00e9montre, c\u2019est cette envie d\u2019exister qui br\u00fblait dans le corps et le c\u0153ur de Johnny. Cet attachement au vivant se transmet par dix titres chant\u00e9s&nbsp;\u2013 l\u2019album compte \u00e9galement un instrumental \u2013&nbsp;qui transpirent tour \u00e0 tour l\u2019amour de la vie et la peur de la mort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00abPardonne-moi<br>Si tu r\u00eavais d&#8217;un autre moi, d&#8217;une autre vie<br>Comment pourrais-je tromper la mort quand elle sourit?<br>Encore une fois, encore une nuit<br>Pardonne-moi<br>[&#8230;]<br>Si je tremble<br>Si je n&#8217;ai plus peur des adieux<br>Si je tombe<br>Dis-moi, qu\u2019aurais-je pu faire de mieux?\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Johnny Hallyday - Pardonne-moi (Clip officiel)\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XTzCVNn1OQk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pardonne-moi<\/em>: il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 sans conteste de l\u2019un des titres les plus prenants de cet album, qui est aussi prenant dans son ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une musique coh\u00e9rente, des paroles qui touchent juste<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah! un album coh\u00e9rent, d\u00e9j\u00e0 rien que cette caract\u00e9ristique est \u00e0 louer chez Johnny, lui qui n\u2019a pas toujours eu le don de la parcimonie pour les personnes participant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9criture, la composition et la r\u00e9alisation de ses albums. Prenez un vieil album de \u00abvari\u00e9toche\u00bb comme il a pu en sortir dans les ann\u00e9es septante avec <em>C\u2019est la vie<\/em> (1977), o\u00f9 seuls quelques titres sortent du lot, ou un produit pop&nbsp;tel que&nbsp;<em>Ma v\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/em> (2005): c\u2019est du bric et du broc. Ici, la sublime trilogie entam\u00e9e avec <em>Staying alive<\/em> (2014) et <em>De l\u2019amour<\/em> (2015) se conclut de mani\u00e8re magistrale, avec Yodelice qui se charge de la r\u00e9alisation artistique et de la composition de tous les morceaux, en collaboration avec Yarol Poupaud pour quatre d\u2019entre eux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Et ce n\u2019est pas tout. Comme nous avons d\u00e9j\u00e0 pu le faire sentir, les paroles tiennent la route, ce qui n\u2019\u00e9tait pas gagn\u00e9 non plus! Nous saluerons en particulier le travail de&nbsp;Yohann Malory, qui signe les textes de <em>Pardonne-moi<\/em>, mais aussi <em>Un enfant du si\u00e8cle<\/em> and <i>Je ne suis qu\u2019un homme<\/i> (qui cl\u00f4t l\u2019album), soit les trois chansons enregistr\u00e9es \u00e0 Los Angeles au printemps 2017. Toutes trois tirent le bilan de la vie d\u2019un homme, qui a conscience de bient\u00f4t partir&nbsp;\u2013 et de partir bien t\u00f4t. Impossible de ne pas mentionner aussi les paroles de <em>J\u2019en parlerai au diable<\/em>, qui ouvre l\u2019album sous forme de chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre \u00e0 la Johnny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00abSi jamais on me dit que j&#8217;ai trahi<br>Alors je ne bronche pas<br>Si jamais on me dit que j&#8217;ai menti<br>Alors je ne rel\u00e8ve pas<br>Car le jour viendra de r\u00e9pondre de mes actes<br>Et je ne me cacherai pas<br>Oui le jour viendra de respecter le pacte<br>Et lui seul m&#8217;entendra<\/p><p>J&#8217;en parlerai au diable<br>Si l&#8217;heure vient \u00e0 sonner<br>De m&#8217;asseoir \u00e0 sa table<br>Et dire ma v\u00e9rit\u00e9<br>J&#8217;en parlerai au diable<br>Il saura m\u2019\u00e9couter<br>L&#8217;innocent, le coupable<br>L&#8217;homme que j&#8217;ai \u00e9t\u00e9\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Johnny Hallyday - J&#039;en parlerai au diable (Clip officiel)\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CobeBZNlR8E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une interpr\u00e9tation qui laisse sans voix<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>J\u2019en parlerai au diable<\/em>&nbsp;est le meilleur exemple de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letemps.ch\/culture\/johnny-hallyday-profundis\">ce qu\u2019a relev\u00e9 le quotidien <em>Le Temps<\/em><\/a>: avec cet album posthume, nous avons affaire \u00e0 du pur Johnny, \u00e0 du vrai rock \u00e0 la Hallyday. C\u2019est une chanson directe, o\u00f9 le propos n\u2019est pas timide, mais qui s\u2019inscrit enti\u00e8rement \u00e0 la fois dans la tradition du rock et dans celle de la chanson fran\u00e7aise. C\u2019est un cri noble, des larmes fi\u00e8res, c\u2019est un Johnny qui s\u2019accomplit&nbsp;\u2013 et qui le sait&nbsp;\u2013 en suivant la ligne de ces hymnes bouleversantes, comme il a su le faire aux diff\u00e9rentes p\u00e9riodes de sa carri\u00e8re, \u00e0 l\u2019instar de&nbsp;<em>\u00c7a n\u2019finira jamais<\/em>&nbsp;en 2009, <em>Quelques cris<\/em> en 1999, <em>Envy<\/em> en 1986,&nbsp;<em>Derri\u00e8re l\u2019amour<\/em> en 1976 et <em>That I love you<\/em> en 1969, pour n\u2019en citer que quelques-unes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Car la musique, les textes et la r\u00e9alisation sont une chose, mais l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation en est une autre. Chez Johnny, c\u2019est bien s\u00fbr la dimension la plus importante. Les m\u00e9dias sont unanimes, cette fois-ci: quelle voix! Alors m\u00eame qu\u2019il souffrait d\u2019un cancer du poumon, Johnny Hallyday semble avoir sorti une puissance vocale, de plus profond de ses tripes, embu\u00e9e d\u2019une \u00e9motion toute particuli\u00e8re qui n\u2019avait jamais pu \u00eatre entendue sur aucun album auparavant. Une ma\u00eetrise vocale incontestable, en somme, que l\u2019on peut constater sur ce tr\u00e8s beau blues o\u00f9 Johnny se glisse dans la peau d\u2019un prisonnier:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Johnny Hallyday - 4m2 (Audio officiel)\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kxbjb0ZILiM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Au final, ce qui fait du mal en \u00e9coutant cet album \u2013 car, pour ceux qui ont aim\u00e9 Johnny, il ne fait pas que du bien \u2013 c\u2019est de se dire qu\u2019il aurait tellement bien r\u00e9sonn\u00e9 sur une sc\u00e8ne. Johnny en avait conscience, cet album a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9 au d\u00e9part dans le but de lancer une nouvelle tourn\u00e9e blues-rock en compagnie des musiciens qui l\u2019entouraient depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es d\u00e9j\u00e0, le fameux groupe dirig\u00e9 par le guitariste Yarol Poupaud. Imaginez seulement le <em>show<\/em> qu\u2019aurait repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation en <em>live<\/em> de ce rock \u00e0 la Rolling Stones o\u00f9 Johnny semble s\u2019amuser comme un enfant, accompagn\u00e9 par les ch\u0153urs d\u2019Amy Keys et&nbsp;Carmel Helene Gaddis et les cuivres arrang\u00e9s par Darrell Leonard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Johnny Hallyday - Back In LA (Audio officiel)\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ANlyUF6Acw0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, malgr\u00e9 un interm\u00e8de instrumental dont on aurait pu se passer (<em>Interlude<\/em> n\u2019est que l\u2019orchestration de cordes compos\u00e9e par Yvan Cassar pour <em>J\u2019en parlerai au diable<\/em> et non retenue lors du mixage final), une chanson-titre <em>My country is love<\/em>&nbsp;sympathique mais moins profonde o\u00f9 Johnny montre qu\u2019il sait encore monter dans les aigus et un <em>Tomber encore&nbsp;<\/em>tr\u00e8s efficace mais trop lisse&nbsp;(et dont les paroles, compos\u00e9es par un fan, n\u2019atteignent pas des sommets), l\u2019album posthume de Johnny Hallyday est bel et bien exceptionnel et ferme les portes, non pas du p\u00e9nitencier, mais d\u2019une carri\u00e8re d\u2019un homme lui aussi exceptionnel, et <em>Made in rock\u2019n roll<\/em>.
