It's not unusual for me to be asked this question. And it's even recurrent for the thing to be assumed when it hasn't really been thought of. Le Regard Libre<\/i> a biased media? The concern is legitimate. It's normal to want to know whether what you read emanates from a certain ideological family. The answer to this question is no. Definitely not. Ideology has never found, and never will find, a place in our magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Whether our content is biased, in the sense that it expresses a certain sensibility more than another, or a family of sensibilities, is another debate. The first thing to establish is that our editorial team is pluralist, that's a fact. From conservative concerns to progressive or reformist horizons, on the left as well as the right, it is undeniable that Le Regard Libre<\/i> cannot be placed on any square of the political chessboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

However, I must acknowledge a second element: I won't deny that our articles can be considered under a common background of liberalism. But this must be defined broadly: we have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to freedom of trade and enterprise, freedom of movement or freedom of expression. We also start from the premise that the individual is an entity unto himself, that he can develop and, through his work, be rewarded on merit. After all, who could object to these foundations of modern democracy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each editor and reader has his or her own vision of the limits of this \u00abliberal\u00bb framework. Never in five years have I rejected an article on the grounds that it didn't correspond to a so-called \u00abeditorial line\u00bb. We can always average out the political colors that sometimes seem to emerge from our lines. And if the analyst then places Le Regard Libre<\/i> to the center-right, I won't say he's wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

As you'll have gathered, this is not the most interesting part of trying to read a newspaper in the light of party politics. Let's dare to assert that the marrow of our identity lies in another kind of orientation: an orientation towards reflection. And then, all our subscribers, from all walks of life, will agree that they don't read this magazine for information, but for reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
