Cinema Wednesdays - H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Lavoyer<\/em><\/p>\n

Lazzaro is a young boy in his twenties, with a robust build, dark curls and water-green eyes. A hard worker, he harvests tobacco for the wealthy Marquise de Luna (Nicoletta Braschi) along with fifty-three other peasants, all condemned to the harshest labor and a material misery even drier than the earth in this rocky, almost desert-like landscape of deepest Italy in summer. Three or four generations survive in the hamlet that is the\u2019Inviolata<\/em>, property of the Marquise.<\/p>\n

Mais le regard insurg\u00e9 et empli de piti\u00e9 ou de r\u00e9volte que le spectateur pose sur cette communaut\u00e9, elle-m\u00eame ne se l\u2019appose pas. Non, puisque, comme le dit bien la Marquise \u00e0 Tancredi (Luca Chikovani), son fils \u00e0 la chevelure d\u00e9color\u00e9e et \u00e0 l\u2019aspect ch\u00e9tif quoique soign\u00e9, \u00ables hommes sont des b\u00eates. Les lib\u00e9rer signifie les rendre conscients de leur statut d\u2019esclave; voil\u00e0 la supercherie.\u00bb Ainsi ignorantes de la situation du monde par-del\u00e0 leur hameau isol\u00e9 de tout, les quelques g\u00e9n\u00e9rations y travaillent avec Lazzaro \u00e0 la bont\u00e9 in\u00e9puisable pour les soutenir \u00e0 chaque fois que son nom r\u00e9sonne.<\/p>\n

Alors qu\u2019il vient passer avec sa m\u00e8re des vacances \u00e0 l\u2019Inviolata,<\/em> Tancredi se prend d\u2019amiti\u00e9 pour Lazzaro, par ennui tout d\u2019abord, puis sinc\u00e8rement. Cette amiti\u00e9, Lazzaro la lui rend avec une puret\u00e9 et une na\u00efvet\u00e9 non dissimul\u00e9es. Dirig\u00e9s par Tancredi, ils entreprennent de faire croire la Marquise de la Luna \u00e0 l\u2019enl\u00e8vement de son fils. Malade, Lazzaro le loyal tente tout de m\u00eame de retrouver son compagnon, r\u00e9solution lui valant une mort et un retour \u00e0 la vie, double voyage \u00e0 travers le temps et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019espace urbain par-del\u00e0 l\u2019Inviolata.<\/em><\/p>\n

Une \u0153uvre compl\u00e8te<\/h2>\n

A l\u2019apparition du g\u00e9n\u00e9rique sur l\u2019\u00e9cran g\u00e9ant, le nom d\u2019Adriano Tardiolo, l\u2019interpr\u00e8te de Lazzaro, s\u2019inscrit seul avant de laisser place aux autres membres du casting \u2013 par ailleurs tout aussi brillants que ce dernier. Au m\u00eame moment, la salle comble \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de cette premi\u00e8re Suisse fait entendre ses applaudissements, sinc\u00e8res mais encore att\u00e9nu\u00e9s par l\u2019ultime sc\u00e8ne de Lazzaro Felice<\/em>, qui laisse sans voix, fait surgir le d\u00e9go\u00fbt \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de l\u2019inhumain que tous, toutes, nous ne connaissons que trop bien.<\/p>\n

Loin des caricatures paysannes et des clich\u00e9s tout pr\u00e9par\u00e9s, l\u2019histoire de Lazzaro Felice,<\/em> port\u00e9e au cin\u00e9ma avec une finesse exceptionnelle dans l\u2019image comme dans la narration, permet de d\u00e9buter la r\u00e9flexion sur la base de ce qu\u2019Alice Rohrwacher appelle l\u2019hyperr\u00e9alit\u00e9<\/em> du monde. De la campagne \u00e0 la ville, toute \u00e9motion et toute pens\u00e9e sont mises en exergue. Comme le dit la sc\u00e9nariste, \u00abil y avait un sentiment complexe que je voulais faire passer [\u2026] on a un m\u00e9lange de grande joie et de tristesse.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Cette complexit\u00e9, pourtant, n\u2019appara\u00eet que lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019analyser et de raconter le film. Face \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran, les sc\u00e8nes tourn\u00e9es successivement de nuit puis de jour prennent par la main le spectateur afin de l\u2019emmener en toute fluidit\u00e9 \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re pertinemment d\u00e9crite par Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Maitre, venu pr\u00e9senter l\u2019\u0153uvre, comme \u00abporeuse\u00bb entre le fabuleux et le r\u00e9el entre le symbolique et le rationnel. Ce diptyque, en effet, impr\u00e8gne un message complexe sans difficult\u00e9, gr\u00e2ce aux symboles intriqu\u00e9s dans l\u2019image ou la parole.<\/p>\n

La lumi\u00e8re, par exemple: constamment pr\u00e9sente bien que ne s\u2019imposant jamais, elle s\u2019amuse plus \u00e0 habiter les t\u00e9n\u00e8bres qu\u2019\u00e0 prendre le dessus sur elle. Elle invite le spectateur \u00e0 impliquer son regard dans cette p\u00e9nombre visuelle et, puisque grande repr\u00e9sentante de la connaissance, lui demande de consid\u00e9rer avec temp\u00e9rance la th\u00e9matique de l\u2019assujettissement par la non-\u00e9ducation ou l\u2019endoctrinement religieux.<\/p>\n

\u00abJe voulais faire un film o\u00f9 le migrant, c\u2019est nous. L’immigration se fait parfois sur cent m\u00e8tres: rapprocher l’image de soi pouvait peut-\u00eatre contribuer \u00e0 la paix.<\/p>\n

C’est un film religieux et fondamentalement anti-religieux\u00bb A. Rohrwacher (Par les temps qui courent<\/em>, FranceCulture)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Religieux, Lazzaro Felice<\/em>? Catholique, tout au moins. Le \u00abpauvre bienheureux\u00bb ressuscit\u00e9 par sa candeur et son innocence immuable, est plus l\u2019incarnation de qualit\u00e9s que nous aurions ici-bas tendance \u00e0 attribuer au Dieu chr\u00e9tien (la bont\u00e9, la puret\u00e9 ou l\u2019innocence) qu\u2019\u00e0 un v\u00e9ritable personnage. Et le jeu, le regard d\u2019Adriano Tardiolo, interpr\u00e8te de Lazzaro, sont eux-m\u00eames d\u2019une telle puret\u00e9 que le divin s\u2019en d\u00e9gage sans qu\u2019il ne dise rien.<\/p>\n

Le grain des images tourn\u00e9es en 16 millim\u00e8tre, avec un rendu semblable \u00e0 celui des photos argentiques, transpose l\u2019incertain de la vie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran, et continue l\u2019avanc\u00e9e de l\u2019entreprise institu\u00e9e par Alice Rohrwacher: brouiller les fronti\u00e8res. La premi\u00e8re fronti\u00e8re \u00e0 s\u2019effriter est celle s\u00e9parant le pass\u00e9 historique du pr\u00e9sent moderne; par l\u2019image d\u2019abord, enregistr\u00e9e comme on le sait. Par les com\u00e9diens \u00e9galement, tous trop convaincants pour \u00eatre acteurs, et finalement par la possibilit\u00e9 constante d\u2019un basculement vers la magie, l\u2019impossible.<\/p>\n

Cadeau pour l\u2019\u00e2me et pour l\u2019\u0153il, l\u2019inexplicable film d\u2019Alice Rohrwacher a de quoi nous concerner. En touchant subtilement \u00e0 des probl\u00e9matiques actuelles telles que la migration, en offrant une vision \u00e9gale de la ville et de la campagne, en mettant chaque \u00e9l\u00e9ment en relation et sans jamais perdre de vue le sentier guidant les pas entre documentaire et imaginaire, Lazzaro Felice<\/em>\u00a0fait na\u00eetre un d\u00e9sir d\u2019absolu et laisse une trace tendrement douloureuse.<\/p>\n
