The latter carves wooden phalluses, a kind of talisman supposed to ward off evil spirits, and works hard while his daughter seems to find no meaning in her life. Introverted and surly, the teenager gives a hard time to those closest to her, from her father to her boyfriend to the principal of her school. Sangay is rebelling against so many older male figures, trying to emancipate herself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"THE RED PHALLUS by Tashi Gyeltshen | Clip | GeoMovies\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/orP9ayAWOL4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est l\u2019histoire d\u2019une femme, prisonni\u00e8re de sa condition \u00abI\u2019m just a girl, I don\u2019t think I can\u00bb. Une femme prisonni\u00e8re de la vall\u00e9e suffocante o\u00f9 elle est n\u00e9e et ne se voit gu\u00e8re d\u2019avenir, prisonni\u00e8re des traditions, de l\u2019honneur. C\u2019est le combat d\u2019une femme qui laisse parfois \u00e9chapper des brins de son immense col\u00e8re qu\u2019elle parvient de moins en moins \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce qui frappe dans <em>The Red Phallus<\/em>, c\u2019est la majest\u00e9 des d\u00e9cors tant par la nature que par la fa\u00e7on dont elle est film\u00e9e. On est en pleine campagne bhoutanaise, au c\u0153ur d\u2019une vall\u00e9e verdoyante o\u00f9 le brouillard dissimule le ciel et l\u2019horizon. Les plans sont larges, le rythme est lent. On entend le bruit des oiseaux, celui du vent et le poids du silence. Les dialogues, plut\u00f4t rares, sont nerveux et violents \u2013 on ne communique pas, on se bat! Autant de facteurs qui contribuent \u00e0 mettre en place une tension qui nous fait redouter l\u2019explosion \u00e0 tout instant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les images sont belles et puissantes, qu\u2019elles soient visuelles ou symboliques. Outre la critique du patriarcat, il est question de masques, ceux que l\u2019on porte pour dissimuler un secret, une faiblesse, une \u00e9motion\u2026 L\u2019esth\u00e9tisme du film est beau et fragile \u00e0 la fois, confrontant le spectateur \u00e0 la beaut\u00e9, \u00e0 la po\u00e9sie et \u00e0 la violence, au malaise en m\u00eame temps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toutefois, malgr\u00e9 les nombreuses qualit\u00e9s plastiques et sc\u00e9naristiques de ce film, ce fut un soulagement qu\u2019il ne dure pas plus de huitante-cinq minutes. En effet, cette lenteur et ce manque d\u2019action peuvent parfois venir \u00e0 bout de la patience et de l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat du spectateur\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Write to the author
