Stop whatever you're doing! Drop everything and take a train, bus or metro to Place de la Riponne. One of Lausanne's summer hotspots and a popular terrace in the sunshine, the Grenette reopened its doors to the public last Wednesday and Thursday. Kick-started with a two-day mini-festival, the open-air bar's sixth season is officially underway. I went there yesterday evening to test the waters, beer in hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Every year, just as the groundhog hibernates and returns to herald the arrival of spring, when the fine weather returns, the terraces attract a whole host of visitors to their pavements. La Grenette has been part of the landscape for five years now, and once again was no exception to the rule. Alongside the other Company pier<\/a><\/em> or the Galician<\/a><\/em>, La Grenette is one of the elite terraces where the whole of Lausanne struts its stuff with a beer or mojito in hand from April to October, when the weather cooperates. Of course, other terraces such as the Great Escape<\/a><\/em> (or the most recent Auberge de Beaulieu<\/a><\/em>), to name but a few, are open year-round, but the flavor isn't the same when the exercise is short-lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night<\/a>, La Grenette had deployed three bars to quench the thirst of the many brave souls who had turned out for the event, and manage their uninterrupted flow. The choice of beer was still limited, but included their eponymous beer - brewed by the Nebula<\/a>, a K\u00f6lsch<\/em>, The range of flavors on offer lends itself perfectly to the first warmth of spring. The bar, with its half-dozen taps, will soon be expanding its range to include local vintages and a handful of new wines. guests<\/em>. Don't delay, the tournus<\/em> is fast-paced, and we often make the mistake of getting too attached to a beer that we may not find again the following weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
