Led by Nicola Mauskovic, who defines his music as \u00aba mix of disco, jazz and afro-beat played in a post-punk style\u00bb, these \u00abunschooled\u00bb musicians put on a show of their own. <\/em>show<em> on the D\u00e9tour stage this Wednesday, July 24. Beforehand, the drummer and composer, accompanied by a few beers, offered us some answers. Fragmented, just like their crazy music.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire l'entretien-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Le Regard Libre<\/em>: You say you draw on Afro-Latin and psychedelic influences. How does that work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicola Mauskovic: We\u2019re mainly influenced by the music we\u2019re listening to at any given time. Right now, it\u2019s mostly a mix of older African music and cumbia. When we start making music, all these influences come together and contribute to the sound we create without us even realizing it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How would you describe your\nmusical evolution?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, we were mainly influenced by cumbia, because our drummer played in a cumbia band in Amsterdam. Then more and more disco elements were added. After that, we drifted toward a more post-punk sound: our music became increasingly grunge-inspired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You work as a family in the Mauskauvic\nDance Band. How do you collaborate with each other?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, I play with my cousins. It\u2019s going really well\u2014we\u2019ve known each other for a very long time. With a few exceptions, we get along wonderfully\u2014we feel very close. We grew up listening to the same music. We\u2019ve been working together since high school. At first, we played together a lot in old jazz clubs. Then we went our separate ways: I did other things, and everyone went off to study in different places and had other projects. We got back together for the Mauskovic Dance Band project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#1d296c\" class=\"has-text-color\"><strong>Read also: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/en\/2019\/07\/24\/b77-concerts-are-not-something-we-like-to-do\/\"><strong>B77: \u00abConcerts aren't something we care about\u00bb.\u00bb<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the role of your lyrics?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We add our lyrics to our compositions later on; it\u2019s a sort of \u00abcollage\u00bb of things we\u2019ve noticed and experiences we\u2019ve had in our <em>shows<\/em> late at night. They\u2019re never really stories; more like something very fragmented. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s the focus of our music.
