A new\nA new publishing house that unites six authors around a single character-concept? I\nhave to admit that, ordinarily, I'd have turned my attention away before I'd\nthrough all their names.  Nothing\nexasperates me more than the false good ideas of people who no longer know\nto be original, leaving me with a bitter taste of disappointment most of the time.\ntaste of disappointment. But this collection wasn't entrusted to me by just anyone, and,\nand, today, I tell myself that it surely deserves at least a chance...\na chance... <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In the preface, we learn how\nthis project came about, what guidelines and constraints were imposed\non the various writers who took part: the same description of an\nimaginary character was given to six different personalities. Here\u2019s to the two of us (or\nseven of us?), Sir Thomas!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first story is just under\nsixty pages long. I tell myself that at least, if I don\u2019t like it, I\u2019ll\nreach the end quickly and move on to the next one. (Yes, sometimes I find myself\nbeing a bit of a killjoy!) Fortunately, Marie Javet\u2019s writing style is quite easy to read; I\nwas quickly drawn into this unsettling, even Kafkaesque story, in\nwhich a father sets out to find his wife and children,\nwhom he\u2019s lost track of in the middle of an amusement park. Fifty-eight pages later,\nI appreciate the ending\u2014which I won\u2019t reveal to you\u2014and the excitement\nit stirred within me. The same excitement I felt watching the movies <em>Fight Club<\/em> and <em>Inception<\/em> a few years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I haven't yet decided between my\nintention to slowly explore each <em>novella<\/em> and my desire to\ndevour them greedily. I pour myself a cup of tea so I can fully savor\nthe atmosphere this first story has immersed me in and reflect on the\nquestions it has sparked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A change of author, a change of\ncentury\u2014here we are in 1832. A change of tone, too! (You might say that,\ngiven the change in author, this was rather predictable.) Two men face off in a\nduel, somewhere on the grounds of the McFergus Estate in Jamaica. One\nof them is Sir Thomas McFergus, author of the manuscript we\ndiscover a few pages later. In it, he recounts his various adventures during\nhis travels in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The events I am about to recount may seem implausible\u2014or, at best, exaggerated. That is why, since you alone are in a position to recognize their truth\u2014which I attest to on my honor\u2014this account is intended exclusively for you. (\u2026) These experiences have made me the man I am today, with all my weaknesses and contradictions.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir Thomas\u2019s story is told in period French that reveals all the grace and delicacy of this language that I love so much! I take great pleasure in reading this text, which Olivier May has managed to make thrilling in both form and substance. Traveling the world to fight against slavery and put an end to it, this <em>gentleman<\/em> The discerning reader will be captivated by their senses and emotions. These two themes resonate in a certain way with our contemporary world. I love it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I still have four Sir Thomases\nleft to meet. In <em>Last Christmas in\nTrapellun<\/em>, by Nicolas Feuz, I can feel the biting cold of the snow stinging\nmy neck. With <em>A Werewolf for Christmas.\nThe Gospel According to Sir Thomas<\/em>, Christelle Magarotto takes me on a wild ride\ndown America\u2019s open highways and blows me away. <em>G.W.'s Unexpected Past.<\/em> Olivia Gerig\u2019s story keeps me on the edge of my seat\nfor fifty-two pages. In the end, I\u2019m completely won over\nby Chatherine Rolland\u2019s sharp wit, which wraps up this collection with <em>The Extractor<\/em> and a lot of talent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, I really\nenjoyed discovering these six worlds, as well as the very different\nversions of the same character that the authors were able to portray. So many \u00abcrazy\u00bb minds\nthat the editors of this new publishing house had the talent to\nbring together.
