Habitu\u00e9 aux \u00e9loges et aux prestiges \u2013 cinq films prim\u00e9s rien que dans le plus fameux des festivals fran\u00e7ais \u2013 fallait-il se faire du mouron?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A en juger par la simplicit\u00e9 du sc\u00e9nario, semblable \u00e0 un<em> ersatz<\/em> d\u00e9poussi\u00e9r\u00e9, on pourrait penser que oui. Maxime (Xavier Dolan) se retrouve avec ses amis d\u2019enfance dans un chalet quelques semaines avant un d\u00e9part pr\u00e9vu pour l\u2019Australie. Il accepte la proposition de la s\u0153ur de l\u2019un d&#8217;eux consistant \u00e0 jouer dans un film amateur tourn\u00e9 en Super 8. Une s\u00e9quence tourn\u00e9e dans l\u2019intimit\u00e9 et qui ne sera jamais montr\u00e9e dans le film, si ce n\u2019est pas le truchement d\u2019un reflet lors d\u2019une projection. Pourtant, ce faux baiser allume la m\u00e8che: il fait basculer la relation des deux jeunes hommes dans l\u2019oscillation des sentiments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-contre-exemple-du-film-de-potes-a-la-francaise\">Un contre-exemple du \u00abfilm de potes\u00bb \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans le cin\u00e9ma francophone, et plus particuli\u00e8rement fran\u00e7ais, on rattache souvent les films sur l\u2019amiti\u00e9 au genre de la com\u00e9die, et cela ne sied gu\u00e8re au th\u00e8me: <em>Babysitting<\/em> (2014) avec les com\u00e9diens de la Bande \u00e0 Fifi r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e par Canal + ou encore <em>The little handkerchiefs<\/em> (2010) et sa suite sortie cette ann\u00e9e. Une \u00e9tiquette qui ne se d\u00e9colle pas facilement: des dialogues \u00e9crits au couteau, un sentiment d\u2019ext\u00e9riorit\u00e9 qui na\u00eet de l\u2019impression que les com\u00e9diens se sont d\u2019avantage amus\u00e9s lors du tournage et ont omis en cours de route qu\u2019ils tournaient un film \u00e0 destination d\u2019un public\u2026 L\u2019entre-soi r\u00e8gne; nous en sommes exclus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rien d\u2019\u00e9tonnant \u00e0 se surprendre, avant de rentrer en salle, &nbsp;de grincer des dents lorsque appara\u00eet sous l\u2019affiche du film de Dolan la mention \u00ables copains d\u2019abord\u00bb\u2026&nbsp; Et il faut bien l\u2019avouer, les premi\u00e8res sc\u00e8nes du film cr\u00e9ent une distance palpable entre le spectateur et cette bande d\u2019amis qui se vanne en joual et en anglais autour de clopes et de bi\u00e8res dans une intensit\u00e9 soutenue. Saisir, attraper au vol des bribes de dialogues sous-titr\u00e9s alors que dans notre champ de vision se masse cinq \u00e0 six individus \u2013 le tout dans un montage effr\u00e9n\u00e9 \u2013 rel\u00e8ve de l\u2019exploit. Un sentiment rapidement dissip\u00e9, tant le film tisse l\u2019\u00e9volution des sentiments des deux hommes par la suggestion, les silences et l\u2019absence, mais \u00e9galement par la compr\u00e9hension mesur\u00e9e et bienveillante du reste du groupe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-matthias-et-maxime-entre-les-lignes\"><em>Matthias et Maxime<\/em>, entre les lignes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Aucune trace de sc\u00e8nes \u00e9touffantes et violentes vues dans <em>Juste la fin du monde<\/em>, aucune pro\u00e9minence de la bande son \u00e9crasant l\u2019image comme dans <em>Mommy<\/em>. Toutes les ficelles que l\u2019on pourrait attendre d\u2019un Xavier Dolan qui ne boudait pas son plaisir \u00e0 attribuer un <em>climax<\/em> \u00e0 des moments pr\u00e9cis de ses films est absent. Seule subsiste l\u2019\u00e9ternelle relation m\u00e8re-fils avec la muse Anne Dorval dans l\u2019un des seuls r\u00f4les f\u00e9minins creus\u00e9 dans l\u2019intrigue, et avec elle les pr\u00e9occupations du cin\u00e9aste pr\u00e9sents depuis <em>J\u2019ai tu\u00e9 ma m\u00e8re<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolan ne choisit pas la facilit\u00e9 en refusant de tomber dans le drame: <em>Matthias et Maxime<\/em> n\u2019est pas tant l\u2019histoire d\u2019une tension amoureuse au sein d\u2019une amiti\u00e9 entre deux hommes que tout semble opposer socialement. Il s\u2019agit au contraire d\u2019un film sur l\u2019amiti\u00e9, celle qui se passe des certitudes et survit tant bien que mal aux \u00e9preuves du temps, aux occasions manqu\u00e9es ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 la haine de soi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un film certes mineur dans la carri\u00e8re du cin\u00e9aste, mais qui lui aura certainement permis de faire un retour, bien entour\u00e9, sur lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vous-venez-de-lire-un-article-en-libre-acces-debats-analyses-actualites-culturelles-abonnez-vous-a-notre-media-de-reflexion-pour-nous-soutenir-et-avoir-acces-a-tous-nos-contenus\">You have just read an open-access article.
