Musumeci<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00abIt's not cancer that kills, it's fear.\u00bb&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>How do you say goodbye to someone who's about to hit the road for a destination from which they'll never return? How do you say goodbye to a grandmother who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and yet believes herself to be in perfect health? <em>Farewell <\/em>(<em>The Farewell<\/em>) tells the story of an entire family's farewell to its matriache, between laughter and tears. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la critique-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"L&#039;ADIEU (THE FAREWELL) - Bande-annonce VOST\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eN496C_ISvc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Billi est n\u00e9e en Chine, mais vit depuis l\u2019enfance avec ses parents aux Etats-Unis. Belle, libre et rebelle, elle n\u2019\u00e9change pas \u00e9norm\u00e9ment avec son p\u00e8re et sa m\u00e8re, qui ont pleinement \u00e9pous\u00e9 <em>the american way of life<\/em> depuis leur immigration: ils se sont embourgeois\u00e9s. C\u2019est \u00e0 Nai Nai, sa grand-m\u00e8re, qu\u2019elle se confie. Par t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, bien s\u00fbr, puisque mamie habite dans leur terre d\u2019origine, \u00e0 Changchun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cancer des poumons, phase quatre. \u00abLes m\u00e9decins lui donnent trois mois, ou peut-\u00eatre moins.\u00bb Nouvelle-choc qui vient bouleverser Billi et ses parents. Comme le veulent les us chinois, Nai Nai re\u00e7oit entre ses mains des r\u00e9sultats truqu\u00e9s par ses proches, pour \u00e9viter qu\u2019elle ne meure de souci et de tristesse avant m\u00eame d\u2019\u00eatre emport\u00e9e par la maladie. Une r\u00e9union de famille s\u2019impose. Pour prononcer <em>Farewell<\/em>. On pr\u00e9texte alors le mariage du cousin de Billi, vivant au Japon. Du Japon, des Etats-Unis, les fils de Nai Nai se d\u00e9placent avec leur famille respective pour laisser le soin \u00e0 leur m\u00e8re d\u2019organiser un bon mariage \u00e0 la chinoise pour son petit-fils. Avec tout le kitsch et la tradition qui si\u00e9ent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Made in China<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lulu Wang a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un film complet: elle raconte \u00e0 travers un cas particulier, son exp\u00e9rience personnelle d\u2019ailleurs, des faits universels. L\u2019amour et le sens du mariage, la mort et ses \u00abpr\u00e9paratifs\u00bb. La Chine aussi, dans toute sa nuance. <em>Made in China<\/em> \u00e9gal kitsch, on est d\u2019accord. On est d\u2019accord aussi sur le fait que l\u2019Empire du Milieu, c\u2019est l\u2019empire des traditions, du culte aux anc\u00eatres, du mariage codifi\u00e9 au millim\u00e8tre. Pas besoin d\u2019\u00eatre expert en <em>sino-je-ne-sais-quoi<\/em>, d\u2019avoir \u00e9crit une th\u00e8se ou d\u2019y avoir v\u00e9cu pour le savoir. Tous ceux qui ont vu le dessin anim\u00e9 Disney <em>Mulan<\/em> connaissent l\u2019affaire, et de pr\u00e8s!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Chine, c\u2019est des cha\u00eenes de montagnes colossales et de vastes plateaux, des m\u00e9gapoles et des rizi\u00e8res, un climat glacial et un climat tropical, l\u2019uniformisation et la diversit\u00e9, du communisme social et du lib\u00e9ralisme \u00e9conomique, des yuan et des US dollars, Mao Ts\u00e9-toung et Confucius, l\u2019ordre et le chaos. Toutes ces oppositions apparentes qui font l\u2019identit\u00e9 chinoise se retrouvent dans <em>Farewell<\/em>, \u00e0 travers ses plans, une discussion familiale assez anim\u00e9e et une journ\u00e9e de pr\u00e9paration du fameux mariage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Farewell-Szenen-ov-06-Scene-Picture-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29914\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un mariage en <em>bling-bling<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La sc\u00e8ne en question est hilarante et mise en sc\u00e8ne avec un vrai talent. Alors que les futurs \u00e9poux passent de pi\u00e8ce en pi\u00e8ce dans un studio sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 pour se faire faire des photographies soi-disant romantiques, Nai Nai et Billi, qui les accompagnent, dissertent sur l\u2019amour, le sens de la f\u00eate du mariage, la femme et son ind\u00e9pendance, le destin d\u2019une vie. La dynamique de cette sc\u00e8ne est exceptionnelle. Le spectateur est happ\u00e9 par la furtivit\u00e9 de la grand-m\u00e8re qui, malgr\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e2ge avanc\u00e9 et la maladie, dirige le jeune couple d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment mal \u00e0 l\u2019aise, \u00e9touff\u00e9 par le <em>bling-bling<\/em>, tout en plaisantant et en enseignant la vie \u00e0 sa petite-fille bien aim\u00e9e. La discussion entre les deux femmes se situe au premier plan alors que le sujet principal de la sc\u00e8ne se retrouve au second plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sans trop en faire, le regard du film, \u00e0 travers celui d\u2019une Billi qui d\u00e9couvre en fait son pays natal, interroge la question sociale chinoise. D\u2019une part, il y a deux plans brefs mais puissants de la prostitution dans un h\u00f4tel qui donnent mati\u00e8re \u00e0 r\u00e9flexion sur la division entre riches et pauvres et sur la nature humaine dans ses d\u00e9sirs de puissance et de jouissance. D\u2019autre part, la cam\u00e9ra insiste, lors de plusieurs sc\u00e8nes, sur le paysage urbain de Changchun, en fixant des lign\u00e9es et des lign\u00e9es de blocs semblables. Ces plans s\u2019int\u00e8grent parfaitement dans la recherche esth\u00e9tique qu\u2019engage Lulu Wang en prenant soin de la photographie pour parler de ses sujets surtout par les images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Autre \u00e9l\u00e9ment important de la photographie: les plans des personnages film\u00e9s de c\u00f4t\u00e9. Ceux-ci peuvent passer inaper\u00e7us, mais leur r\u00f4le est primordial. Ils r\u00e9v\u00e8lent la solitude n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la pens\u00e9e pour faire le point. Chaque avanc\u00e9e d\u00e9cisive des personnages appara\u00eet sous cette forme du plan de c\u00f4t\u00e9. En effet, lorsqu\u2019une cam\u00e9ra filme quelqu\u2019un de c\u00f4t\u00e9, le spectateur est t\u00e9moin de ce qu\u2019il ne peut pas voir hors-champ. Il voit ce que le personnage en question pense, le regard ailleurs, perdu, mais d\u00e9cid\u00e9 \u00e0 avancer. La photographie du long-m\u00e9trage est donc tr\u00e8s ma\u00eetris\u00e9e, voire trop. La forme, dont la beaut\u00e9 n\u2019est pas remise en question, manque peut-\u00eatre de discr\u00e9tion. On sent trop la r\u00e9alisatrice derri\u00e8re le viseur en train de s\u2019imaginer ce qu\u2019elle peut exprimer \u00e0 travers l\u2019image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Farewell-Szenen-ov-04-Scene-Picture-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29920\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une exp\u00e9rience gastronomique<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Toujours au niveau de la forme, la musique accompagne toute la trame de son intervention par des voix en ch\u0153ur et des violons. M\u00e9lancoliques, ils cr\u00e9ent l\u2019\u00e9quilibre entre la com\u00e9die et le drame en servant de contrepoids au c\u00f4t\u00e9 burlesque des r\u00e9pliques enjou\u00e9es. M\u00eame si l\u2019on est emport\u00e9 par ces m\u00e9lodies, on ne peut pas s\u2019emp\u00eacher d\u2019y sentir un l\u00e9ger exc\u00e8s virant \u00e0 la composition tire-larmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une fois n\u2019est pas coutume, deux autre sens traversent l\u2019\u00e9cran. Le go\u00fbt et l\u2019odorat. La nourriture est tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sente, des plats les plus quotidiens aux tables plus festives en passant par l\u2019alcool et ses joies. Les aliments sont film\u00e9s de telle mani\u00e8re \u00e0 ce qu\u2019on sent v\u00e9ritablement le parfum fort et d\u00e9licat de la cuisine chinoise cependant que les viandes \u00e0 la sauce aigre-douce croustillent sous nos dents. <em>Farewell<\/em>, c\u2019est aussi une exp\u00e9rience gastronomique. Impression qui est sans doute due en partie \u00e0 mon amour pour la cuisine asiatique. J\u2019avais ressenti le m\u00eame app\u00e9tit \u00e0 la lecture d\u2019<em>Winter in Sokcho <\/em>d\u2019une <a href=\"https:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/en\/2017\/07\/31\/meeting-with-elisa-shua-dusapin-a-metissee-revelation-of-french-literature\/\">Elisa Shua Dusapin<\/a> nous d\u00e9taillant la consistance et les \u00e9manations de la cuisine cor\u00e9enne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Farewell-Szenen-ov-07-Scene-Picture-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29913\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tendre la main vers le ciel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <em>Farewell<\/em> toutes les exp\u00e9riences et les questions offrent un moment agr\u00e9able \u00e0 passer dans les salles, pour apprendre, d\u00e9couvrir, s\u2019amuser, s\u2019\u00e9mouvoir. M\u00eame si le film demeure un peu limit\u00e9 tout en tirant \u00e0 la longue certaines sc\u00e8nes de fa\u00e7on inutile et en essayant de tirer des larmes parfois maladroitement, il permet le genre d\u2019explorations qui constituent la valeur du septi\u00e8me art, dans sa forme plut\u00f4t l\u00e9g\u00e8re, accessible et divertissante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout un parcours qui revient enfin \u00e0 la question principale: comment dire adieu \u00e0 un proche qui va mourir? Mais surtout, comment <em>te<\/em> dire adieu? Comment le <em>I<\/em>, dans l\u2019existence propre et r\u00e9elle de chacun, peut-il saluer un <em>tu<\/em>, tout aussi r\u00e9el? Douloureuse question \u00e0 la laquelle la raison ne r\u00e9pond pas. Au c\u0153ur de parler et de tendre la main vers le ciel, pour s\u2019en remettre \u00e0 ce qui nous d\u00e9passe, pour que l\u2019autre continue de nous voir.
