Dans une forme radicalement nouvelle, le sujet baudelairien se comprend comme un chroniqueur de son miroir atrabilaire. Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 faire du <em>Spleen de Paris<\/em> le pendant des <em>Fleurs du Mal<\/em> \u2013 autrement dit, son \u00e9gal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la critique (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<p>Moins connue que <em>Les<\/em> <em>Fleurs du Mal<\/em>, <em>Le Spleen de Paris<\/em> est une \u0153uvre majeure de Baudelaire, sa derni\u00e8re \u00e9galement. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un recueil posthume de po\u00e8mes en prose, \u00e9tabli par Charles Asselineau et Th\u00e9odore de Banville, et publi\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 1869 dans le quatri\u00e8me volume des <em>\u0152uvres compl\u00e8tes<\/em> de Baudelaire de l\u2019\u00e9diteur Michel L\u00e9vy. Les cinquante po\u00e8mes en prose que contient le recueil ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crits entre 1855 et 1864. Environ quarante de ces cinquante po\u00e8mes en prose sont parus du vivant de Baudelaire dans la revue <em>L\u2019Artiste<\/em>, dirig\u00e9e par Ars\u00e8ne Houssaye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Des po\u00e8mes \u00e0 caract\u00e8re journalistique<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Houssaye est un ami. Baudelaire lui consacre d\u2019ailleurs une d\u00e9dicace qui se trouve au d\u00e9but de l\u2019ouvrage. Le lien de cette \u0153uvre avec le monde du journalisme n\u2019est donc pas n\u00e9gligeable. Et pour cause, il se retrouve \u00e0 intervalles plus au moins r\u00e9guliers dans le recueil. Baudelaire semble proposer \u00e0 travers sa peinture du spleen parisien une r\u00e9flexion sur l\u2019\u00e9criture quotidienne, sur l\u2019\u00e9criture journalistique. Il n\u2019est pas anodin de noter que l\u2019auteur, comme il \u00e9tait d\u2019usage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, publiait ses \u00e9crits sous forme de feuilletons, dont les \u00e9pisodes paraissaient dans les journaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, le contexte de cr\u00e9ation du <em>Spleen de Paris<\/em> se retrouve dans son contenu. En t\u00e9moigne par exemple le po\u00e8me <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetica.fr\/poeme-1452\/charles-baudelaire-a-une-heure-du-matin\/\">\u00abA une heure du matin\u00bb<\/a>, exprimant un fort ennui, aboutissant \u00e0 une forme de col\u00e8re, contre les faux-semblants de la modernit\u00e9, de la ville et de la vie quotidienne. La formule \u00abhorrible vie! horrible ville!\u00bb en dit long sur l\u2019association que fait Baudelaire entre la modernit\u00e9 et la ville. Paris rassemble \u00e0 elle seule tous les \u00e9l\u00e9ments de la modernit\u00e9 que Baudelaire conspue: la foule, l\u2019hypocrisie, le d\u00e9veloppement de la bourgeoisie, le progr\u00e8s. Le po\u00e8te voit dans les autres et dans lui-m\u00eame un \u00eatre double et donc vou\u00e9 au spleen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A l\u2019inverse, l\u2019id\u00e9al semble se trouver dans l\u2019\u00e9criture. Et il est int\u00e9ressant de noter que Baudelaire \u00e9crit dans la clausule: \u00abSeigneur mon Dieu! accordez-moi la gr\u00e2ce de produire quelques beaux vers qui me prouvent \u00e0 moi-m\u00eame que je ne suis pas le dernier des hommes, que je ne suis pas inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 ceux que je m\u00e9prise!\u00bb. Avec cette phrase, on acc\u00e8de \u00e0 l\u2019opposition int\u00e9ressante entre les personnes qui ne connaissent pas la m\u00e9lancolie et les g\u00e9nies atteints par ce sentiment de m\u00e9lancolie. On peut confirmer que Baudelaire m\u00e9prise les premiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parmi la peinture que fait Baudelaire dans ce po\u00e8me du profond mal-\u00eatre que lui procure la foule, les bourgeois, le bruit, la journ\u00e9e, le quotidien, appara\u00eet la question des journalistes et du journalisme. Baudelaire fait de son po\u00e8me en prose un texte r\u00e9flexif, qui dans ce qu\u2019il d\u00e9crit refl\u00e8te son travail d\u2019\u00e9criture quotidienne. Le titre \u00abA une heure du matin\u00bb vient alimenter cette id\u00e9e d\u2019ancrage quotidien; il ne contient pas de date et vise \u00e0 g\u00e9n\u00e9raliser son exp\u00e9rience r\u00e9p\u00e9titive de la vie en ville et de l\u2019\u00e9criture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La m\u00e9lancolie urbaine<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort de cette dimension journalistique, <em>Le Spleen de Paris<\/em> peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 le \u00abpendant\u00bb du recueil <em>Les Fleurs du Mal<\/em>. Claude Pichois, dans sa notice des <em>\u0152uvres compl\u00e8tes<\/em>, \u00e9crit d\u2019ailleurs que ce mot appara\u00eet au moins six fois dans la correspondance de Baudelaire entre d\u00e9cembre 1863 et janvier 1866. On remarque beaucoup de similitudes entre les deux \u0153uvres, notamment la pr\u00e9sence de la dualit\u00e9 spleen et id\u00e9al; des r\u00e9flexions sur l\u2019art; la volont\u00e9 de peindre la modernit\u00e9, la Ville (\u00abTableaux parisiens\u00bb); ou encore l\u2019imaginaire du r\u00eave, notamment exotique. Toutefois, le po\u00e8me en prose permet un traitement diff\u00e9rent de ces th\u00e9matiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les correspondances \u00e9tablies par les m\u00e9taphores dans <em>Les Fleurs du Mal <\/em>font place \u00e0 la simple juxtaposition linguistique, \u00e0 la contigu\u00eft\u00e9; on passe d\u2019une mythique verticalit\u00e9 \u00e0 une prosa\u00efque horizontalit\u00e9, qui finalement \u00e9pouse peut-\u00eatre avec plus de transcendance la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de la Ville. Et justement, Baudelaire inscrit explicitement le spleen dans le contexte urbain. Nous le voyons au titre m\u00eame de l\u2019\u0153uvre: il s\u2019agit non du spleen, mais du spleen de Paris, ce qui est une nuance extr\u00eamement importante en comparaison avec les \u00abSpleen\u00bb des <em>Fleurs du Mal<\/em>. Le po\u00e8me en prose est une forme de po\u00e9sie sans rime ni rythme. Que reste-t-il alors de po\u00e9tique? La musique, et plus sp\u00e9cifiquement la musique du rodeur urbain: Baudelaire parle d\u2019un \u00abid\u00e9al obs\u00e9dan\u00bb, celui d\u2019une \u00abprose po\u00e9tique, musicale sans rythme et sans rime, assez souple et assez heurt\u00e9e pour s\u2019adapter aux mouvements lyriques de l\u2019\u00e2me, aux ondulations de la r\u00eaverie, aux soubresauts de la conscience\u00bb (Charles Baudelaire, lettre-d\u00e9dicace \u00e0 Houssaye, 1862). Sur le sujet, on pense facilement \u00e0 son contemporain Flaubert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais surtout, cette musique du spleen urbain ne serait rien sans l\u2019individu qu\u2019elle place au centre. L\u2019individu face \u00e0 la ville. Le nain face au g\u00e9ant. L\u2019irr\u00e9ductible face au d\u00e9mesur\u00e9. Le spleen des petits po\u00e8mes en prose est une forme de m\u00e9lancolie rattach\u00e9e au \u00abje\u00bb qui l\u2019exprime. Elle renvoie au clivage propre \u00e0 la m\u00e9lancolie, rendant le sujet atrabilaire \u00e0 la fois acteur et spectateur de son quotidien. Ce n&#8217;est donc pas pour rien que le recueil adopte des postures journalistiques. Mais nous parlons l\u00e0 d\u2019un temps r\u00e9volu. A l\u2019heure du suivisme bien-pensant des m\u00e9dias, une bonne plong\u00e9e dans l\u2019\u0153uvre de Baudelaire ne serait sans doute pas de trop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ecrire \u00e0 l&#8217;auteur:
