A brief reminder of the first news item. On January 20, 2021, at the inauguration of Joe Biden as the new President of the United States, 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman recited a work of her own that generated as much emotion as it did press coverage. In this poem entitled <em>The Hill We Climb<\/em> calling for reconciliation within the American population, the young artist defined herself as a \u00abskinny black girl, descended from slaves and raised by a single mother\u00bb - a spotlight on her condition echoing the protest movement <em>Black Lives Matter<\/em>. On January 21, publishing houses around the world began looking for the best talent to translate the poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire l\u2019\u00e9ditorial (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<p>Voil\u00e0 qu\u2019aux Pays-Bas, l\u2019activiste Janice Deul a \u00e9crit dans une tribune que le choix de Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, jeune et brillante auteure, pour r\u00e9aliser la version n\u00e9erlandaise du po\u00e8me d\u2019Amanda Gorman \u00e9tait une \u00aboccasion manqu\u00e9e\u00bb: il e\u00fbt mieux fallu opter pour une <em>jeune traductrice noire<\/em>. La raison? \u00abLes m\u00e9rites et les qualit\u00e9s des Noirs ne sont \u00e9valu\u00e9s que de fa\u00e7on sporadique, voire pas du tout. Quant aux femmes noires, elles sont syst\u00e9matiquement marginalis\u00e9es.\u00bb Ce qu\u2019il est int\u00e9ressant de noter, c\u2019est que le choix de Marieke Lucas Rijneveld avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 salu\u00e9 par Amanda Gorman non seulement pour son g\u00e9nie, mais aussi parce qu\u2019elle repr\u00e9sente la d\u00e9fense des minorit\u00e9s sexuelles et qu\u2019elle se d\u00e9finit comme non-binaire (ni homme ni femme). Personnellement, je ne connais qu\u2019une seule entit\u00e9 pertinente, la plus petite et noble \u00abminorit\u00e9\u00bb qui soit: l\u2019individu, qui partage avec ses semblables sa nature humaine. Mais passons&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Trois jours apr\u00e8s la publication de la tribune de Janice Deul, le traducteur a annonc\u00e9 qu\u2019il se retirait. La pol\u00e9mique a pris au niveau mondial. Le traducteur catalan Victor Obiols a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9 que son \u00e9diteur le virait. La maison d\u2019\u00e9dition a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu\u2019elle cherchait un autre profil: \u00abUne femme, jeune, activiste et de pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence noire\u00bb <em>(sic!)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 du fait que classer les gens par leur couleur de peau \u00e9quivaut \u00e0 du racisme, cette mani\u00e8re de choisir des traducteurs selon leur origine et d\u2019autres caract\u00e9ristiques que le m\u00e9rite (jeunesse, activisme) atteste d\u2019une m\u00e9compr\u00e9hension totale de ce qu\u2019est la traduction, \u00e0 savoir se glisser dans la peau et l\u2019esprit de l\u2019autre tout en n\u2019<em>\u00e9tant<\/em> pas cet autre.
