Soumis aux Oscars 2022 pour repr\u00e9senter le Liban, mais non retenu dans les <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/article\/2022\/02\/08\/oscars-2022-the-power-of-the-dog-de-jane-campion-en-tete-avec-douze-nominations_6112816_3246.html\">nominations<\/a>, le film dresse le portrait intime d\u2019une famille sur fond de crise politique. <em>Le Regard Libre<\/em> a eu le privil\u00e8ge de s\u2019entretenir avec la cin\u00e9aste (interview s\u00e9par\u00e9e \u00e0 para\u00eetre prochainement). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la critique (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Costa Brava Lebanon\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/653683567?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In <em>Submarine<\/em>, Hala, le personnage principal, incarne la puissance d\u2019un roc. Devant le vaisseau fant\u00f4me qu\u2019est devenue la ville, elle marche \u00e0 contre-courant des habitants libanais en fuite. Elle impose sa r\u00e9sistance en continuant \u00e0 danser. Les couches successives de d\u00e9chets, \u00e0 l\u2019image des vagues de la mer, n\u2019ont aucune chance d\u2019\u00e9branler ce rocher. <em>Submarine<\/em> est un court-m\u00e9trage d\u2019anticipation. Cinq ans s\u00e9parent la sortie de <em>Submarine<\/em> et celle de <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon<\/em>. De la dystopie \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9, le temps est parfois court. Dans ce nouveau film, Mounia Akl se saisit avec brio de l\u2019intimit\u00e9 familiale pour traduire une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 contre laquelle se battent encore aujourd\u2019hui les habitants du Liban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read also | <a href=\"https:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/en\/tag\/au-liban-avec-sophie-woeldgen\/\">P\u00e9nuries, reconstruction&#8230; les chroniques de la journaliste ind\u00e9pendante Sophie Woeldgen, sur place \u00e0 Beyrouth<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depuis 2015, des tonnes de d\u00e9chets s\u2019entassent dans les rues libanaises suite \u00e0 la fermeture de la plus grande d\u00e9charge du pays. M\u00eame si le gouvernement tente de trouver des solutions \u00e0 court-terme, notamment avec l\u2019enfouissement des d\u00e9chets ou leur incin\u00e9ration, le peuple libanais d\u00e9nonce ces fausses solutions qui cristallisent davantage les tensions, pour ne pas dire la rupture, entre la population et son gouvernement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"refuge-utopique\"><strong>Refuge utopique<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La rupture, la famille Badri de <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon<\/em> a \u00e9t\u00e9 contrainte de la choisir depuis huit ans. Perch\u00e9s en haut des collines surplombant Beyrouth, ils ont investi un ermitage idyllique, qui rappelle la beaut\u00e9 et la gloire d\u2019un Liban d\u2019autrefois. Si Hala incarne la r\u00e9sistance du rocher, <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon<\/em> renouvelle la m\u00e9taphore min\u00e9rale en d\u00e9voilant dans la sc\u00e8ne d\u2019ouverture la statue en pierre du pr\u00e9sident libanais couch\u00e9e et emmaillot\u00e9e dans un camion. La cam\u00e9ra suit le trajet du v\u00e9hicule dans un long travelling, sous la hu\u00e9e des passants. D\u00e9monstration d\u2019une gloire ind\u00e9cente ou r\u00eave d\u2019un cort\u00e8ge fun\u00e8bre symbolisant la fin d\u2019un Liban \u00e0 jamais perdu? La fronti\u00e8re est t\u00e9nue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette sculpture m\u00e9galomaniaque finit sa course sur le terrain jouxtant l\u2019enclave paisible de la famille Badri. Ce terrain appartenait \u00e0 Alia (Yumna Marwan), s\u0153ur de Walid (Saleh Bakri), mais elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 expropri\u00e9e sur ordre du gouvernement. Ce bouclier contre la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 pestilentielle de Beyrouth est transform\u00e9 en une d\u00e9charge \u00e0 ciel ouvert. D\u00e8s lors, ce reliquat de paradis voit ses fronti\u00e8res brouill\u00e9es. L\u2019eau devient rouge, les montagnes verdoyantes font place \u00e0 un amoncellement de sacs poubelles, le gris colonise le bleu du ciel. Le paradis devient enfer selon une m\u00e9taphore relevant du lieu commun. A mesure que les d\u00e9chets s\u2019approchent du seuil de la porte, ressurgissent tourments et tensions au sein de la famille Badri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>La cin\u00e9aste situait <em>Submarine<\/em> dans les rues d\u2019une ville fictive, qu\u2019on devine \u00eatre Beyrouth. L\u2019action de <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon <\/em>s\u2019ancre dans un seul espace. Ex-militants politiques, le couple Souraya (<a href=\"https:\/\/leregardlibre.com\/en\/cinema\/capharnaum-entre-desespoir-et-frustration\/\">Nadine Labaki<\/a>) et Walid ont op\u00e9r\u00e9 une rupture radicale avec Beyrouth, qu\u2019on ne voit jamais. La ville appartient au pass\u00e9. Seuls t\u00e9moins de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 militante, les voix monocordes des journalistes et les images m\u00e9diatiques font quelques incursions dans cette bulle fragile. La mise en abyme est subtilement amen\u00e9e: la d\u00e9liquescence du microcosme familial va de pair avec celle du macrocosme urbain. Sans \u00e9chappatoire possible, les deux subissent en parall\u00e8le leur lente d\u00e9gradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"conflit-a-visage-humain\"><strong>Conflit \u00e0 visage humain<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mounia Akl confie qu\u2019elle a souhait\u00e9 capter les r\u00e9percussions politiques sur l\u2019intimit\u00e9 familiale. <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon<\/em> d\u00e9joue le pi\u00e8ge de la caricature mis\u00e9rabiliste o\u00f9 n\u2019appara\u00eet que le pathos. Au contraire, si la zone respirable grignot\u00e9e par les ordures s\u2019amenuise progressivement, elle symbolise l\u2019image de leur propre existence coinc\u00e9e entre la nostalgie d\u2019un pass\u00e9 perdu et la possibilit\u00e9 de construire leur propre futur radieux. Souraya r\u00eave de son ancienne vie de chanteuse \u00e0 succ\u00e8s, l\u2019adolescente Tala (Nadia Charbel) phantasme sur le jeune ing\u00e9nieur responsable du projet de la d\u00e9charge. La cin\u00e9aste r\u00e9alise un habile embo\u00eetement de mondes personnels o\u00f9 chacun, \u00e0 l\u2019image de l\u2019air irrespirable, converge vers sa propre asphyxie. Les rires remplacent les masques \u00e0 oxyg\u00e8ne, la danse et le chant se substituent aux manifestations de m\u00e9contentement. <em>Costa Brava, Lebanon <\/em>t\u00e9moigne de l\u2019immanence de la vie, malgr\u00e9 les vicissitudes.
