It's about a couple of iconic artists: Petra Wolf, an art teacher in West Germany, and her husband, Peter, a painter fleeing the East. GDR, FRG, Stasi, this novel allows us to revisit the history - and the future - of our country.<\/strong> <strong>of this post-war Communist country and its artists. An enigma that keeps the reader on the edge of his seat throughout the novel, namely the mysterious disappearance of painter Peter Wolf.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Lire la recension (en libre acc\u00e8s)-->\n\n\n\n<p>Une grande r\u00e9trospective est en cours de pr\u00e9paration au Metropolitan Museum of Art \u00e0 New York (MET), et son directeur veut absolument rencontrer Peter Wolf. Il a affaire \u00e0 sa femme, Petra, la gardienne de son \u0153uvre. Une femme d\u00e9crite par le milieu comme \u00e9tant froide et ex\u00e9crable. Pourtant, elle ne fait que prot\u00e9ger son mari <strong>-<\/strong> qui s\u2019av\u00e8re par la suite ne pas vraiment l\u2019\u00eatre <strong>-<\/strong> en brouillant les pistes\u2026 Peter Wolf est officiellement atteint de phobie sociale. Apr\u00e8s tout, un peintre reclus dans son atelier et qui ne souhaite voir personne, ce n\u2019est pas tr\u00e8s \u00e9tonnant. Jusqu\u2019au jour o\u00f9 le directeur du MET rage contre cette absence qu\u2019il estime condescendante et exige la pr\u00e9sence de l\u2019artiste pour le vernissage de son exposition. Le conservateur porte plainte. Une enqu\u00eate pour disparition suit. Tout accuse Petra Wolf. Qui se retrouve la femme \u00e0 abattre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Nous sommes alors emport\u00e9s dans les complexit\u00e9s du monde de l\u2019art contemporain, des journalistes \u00e0 la qu\u00eate du titre sexy, des conservateurs sans piti\u00e9, des historiens de l\u2019art p\u00e9dants et sexistes. Beaucoup de th\u00e8mes sont ainsi trait\u00e9s dans ce roman, dont celle de la place des femmes dans l\u2019art avec cet \u00e9ni\u00e8me exemple d\u2019une artiste qui n\u2019est reconnue que comme assistante de son g\u00e9nie de mari. Fort heureusement, nous comprenons au fil du roman que la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 est tout autre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A la recherche de Peter Wolf<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019histoire de la RDA est intelligemment m\u00eal\u00e9e, faisant d\u2019elle un th\u00e8me plus qu\u2019un d\u00e9cor, au m\u00eame titre que la cr\u00e9ation artistique sous le r\u00e9gime de l\u2019Est et de l\u2019Ouest. Sophie Pointurier a r\u00e9ussi le difficile exercice du premier roman en parlant si justement du complexe milieu de l\u2019art contemporain allemand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il va de soi que pour \u00e9crire <em>The peripheral woman<\/em>, Sophie Pointurier a fait de complexes recherches et a us\u00e9 de ses qualit\u00e9s d\u2019enseignante-chercheuse. Quant \u00e0 son style fluide et entra\u00eenant, il est efficace. Et donc l\u2019enqu\u00eate, passionnante. C\u2019est s\u00fbrement le point le plus int\u00e9ressant et entra\u00eenant de ce roman: toucher du doigt les rouages de la r\u00e9ussite d\u2019un artiste, avant m\u00eame de vouloir savoir s\u2019il est vivant, mort, ou m\u00eame s\u2019il a v\u00e9ritablement du talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00abIl lui proposera de poursuivre l\u2019entretien hors du bureau pour lui faire d\u00e9couvrir ses \u00abWolf \u00e0 lui\u00bb. Sa vanit\u00e9 l\u2019emportait sur son emploi du temps archi-blind\u00e9. Qu\u2019importe, on l\u2019attendrait. Ils prirent un escalier monumental qui menait vers une enfilade des salles d\u00e9di\u00e9es aux diff\u00e9rents courants du XX<sup>th<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. Die Mauer fut le premier tableau qu\u2019il lui pr\u00e9senta. Le plus simple, le plus accessible, selon lui. C\u2019\u00e9tait une toile immense de trois m\u00e8tres de large sur deux m\u00e8tres de haut. Hilary fut tout de suite conquise par la force et le mouvement qui s\u2019en d\u00e9gageaient. Elle \u00e9tait aspir\u00e9e.<br>&#8211; Fascinant, c\u2019est-ce pas?<br>Elle ne disait rien.<br>&#8211; Vous avez devant vous la confrontation de deux \u00e9coles, de deux pratiques artistiques. Tout y est, c\u2019est une d\u00e9monstration magistrale de la r\u00e9conciliation de deux extr\u00eames. A l\u2019arri\u00e8re-plan, il y a tr\u00e8s clairement le classicisme violent\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9cole de Leipzig, que vient renforcer le trait plus moderne de la tradition ouest-allemande. Vous voyez?<br>Il fr\u00f4la dangereusement le tableau dans sa d\u00e9monstration. Son geste \u00e9tait plein de fougue. Hilary Brown le regardait s\u2019animer. Elle voyait tout ce qu\u2019il voulait lui montrer.<br>\u2013 C\u2019est un appel \u00e0 la libert\u00e9, encha\u00eena-t-il. C\u2019est LE symbole de la r\u00e9unification.
