«I killed my mother», between love and hate
Le Regard Libre N° 71 - Amélie Wauthier
I'm a big fan of Xavier Dolan's work, but that wasn't always the case. Is it because, like good wine, my taste in culture improves with age? Not at all! Not much of a cinephile for a decade, I simply hadn't taken the time to watch any of his films. Fortunately, I made sure to rectify that a few years ago, and it was with J'ai tué ma mère that I took the plunge.
Xavier Dolan was nineteen when, in the quietest of moods, he came up with J'ai tué ma mère (let's not think back to what we were doing at the same age, we'd only be hurting ourselves). Of all the prolific director's works, this first feature is undoubtedly my favorite. Maybe that's because it was my first feature.
