In this article, freelance automotive journalist Gil Egger denounces the political obstacles to what he considers to be an «instrument of our progress».».

Find me a country that has developed without the automobile over the last century and a half. Don't look, there aren't any! Of course, all sorts of other means of transport have appeared. But none is quite so unique. For the primary characteristic of the car is to be an incomparable instrument of freedom. At the service of both work and leisure, it has accompanied the human adventure at its most daring. Today, it's hard to imagine families cramming into cars that were a good twenty centimetres narrower than the ones we know today. Without air-conditioning, for journeys on sometimes improbable roads (Ah! the famous «holes in the road" signs!).
