On the occasion of the ambitious virtual edition of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights, Swiss director and filmmaker Milo Rau (re)presents his latest feature film in competition, Le Nouvel Evangile. As usual, the director blurs the boundaries between documentary and fictional narrative, taking us to an Italian town where a fifth gospel is being written, against a backdrop of social criticism.

The Italian peninsula, cradle of the Holy See, is the setting for this New Gospel. First of all, the story is set in Matera, capital of the province of Basilicata. In this city, which has been designated «European Capital of Culture» in 2019, Milo Rau makes the most of his experience.
