drug war

War has existed since the dawn of time, and is still accompanied by the use of psychoactive substances. Historical perspective, in the light of the American experience in Vietnam.

Throughout history, there have been many examples of warfare and drugs being linked. In ancient Greece, infantrymen swallowed large quantities of wine before going into battle. The Vikings used the hallucinogenic properties of several varieties of amanita. The Incas consumed coca leaves. Napoleon and the Royal Navy supplied their men with large quantities of alcohol. During the American Civil War, opium was widely used. During the First World War, belligerents supplied cocaine to their troops, sometimes hiding it in food. Then, with the outbreak of the Second World War, amphetamines, of which Hitler himself was a fan, became widely available.
