The links between the Franco-Swiss writer and his adopted city have always been complex. This book, however, recalls the important role played by the city of Calvin in the life of the author of Belle du Seigneur.
Albert Cohen et Genève, guide littéraire, published at the end of last year by La Baconnière, is a relatively mysterious man. During his lifetime, and subsequently in his will, the Franco-Swiss writer had all his literary papers and most of his correspondence removed. As a result, only his work - including his autobiographical accounts - can provide a portrait of a man whose life spanned all the upheavals of the 20th century. So it's hard to know exactly what Albert Cohen thought of his adopted city, Geneva.
