Back from the Dour Festival where she performed last week, DJ and producer Canelle Doublekick revealed her musical universe before performing on the Paleo electro stage on Wednesday July 19. You've got to hold on.

Le Regard LibreYou'll be mixing for the Paléo audience in a few moments. Can you introduce yourself?

Canelle Doublekick: I've been a DJ for five or six years now, a producer for about three years and a member of the Darude collective, which organizes parties. eurodance. At these events, everyone dresses up in 2000s fashion, it's very colorful; there's a person in MC at the microphone who does the animation; speed goggles are handed out... It's fun, fast and zany! As for the production side, I started looking into it when I discovered Mara, coming to you! I wanted to do a techno or ghettotech remix of his track Foufoune. After contacting her, I was able to produce it and it worked out pretty well. Since then, I've released other remixes.

And on July 21, you'll be releasing a single...

Yes, on teknokawaii, the label of the La Darude collective. The track is called Dònde esta la discotecà. I was inspired by the musical style makina and hardhousetwo fast-paced, funfair styles.

As a DJ, what kind of music do you offer?

My musical spectrum is very varied: eurodance, hardtrance, donk, tekno and a host of other sub-genres with a touch of zany. My guilty pleasure is pop: club music from the 2000s like David Guetta or Bob Sinclar. I can dabble in more serious styles, such as techno or house, but I don't necessarily identify with them, and there are many DJs who are already very strong in this field. From the outset, I wanted my universe to be more varied and to mix everything I liked. For example, in one set, I'm going to go through lots of different styles, but I'm still going to stay within the same style. harddance.

What do you mean by «more serious»?

It's this techno side of Berlin, almost a little dark, typical of what you'll find at Berghain (editor's note: Berlin's world-famous techno club). I love it, but it's not my thing: I'm more into the Eurodance spirit, fun and sunny. It's still very serious in terms of production and quality, but there's this less serious, more colorful side to it, just as festive but perhaps more pop culture-oriented. My primary aim is to make people laugh and dance in a spirit of madness. That doesn't stop me from enjoying mixing other styles too. For example, I'm also a resident at parties in Paris for the Fury XXX collective. ghettotech, a blend of rap and techno.

You'll be taking to the stage shortly. How do you feel?

At the top! I was very well received by Paléo. It's a festival I didn't know at all. When they booked me, I asked around and thought «oh yeah, it's a big festival: pressure!». I know I'll be a bit stressed a few minutes before I go on stage. But as soon as I get into it, I'll be fine. I dance a lot on stage, so it's like giving a cardio class. (editor's note: in my experience, no cardio class beats a Canelle Doublekick DJ set)! It's going to be a lot of remixes: I think it's important at festivals that people recognize the sounds a bit, to find that unifying side of the music. It's interesting to have versions other than the originals in something more dance, accelerated: that's my trademark. I'll be playing remixes of Samba di Janeiro or the French Cancan at the start of the set.

Are you used to playing at festivals?

I started playing festivals last year, with We love Green, in Paris, and Peacock Festival, with the La Darude collective, also in Paris. I'm just back from Dour and I've got a few more dates this summer after Paléo, like the Insane Festival in Apt. Everything has happened pretty quickly in my career. I'm where I am this year, so I'm wondering what it's going to be like next year. The challenge is to come up with creations throughout the year to show that you're still here, that you're creating content and music. I hope people like it, and we'll see about next year!
