Patrick Chamoiseau wrote: «Carrying freedom is the only burden that straightens the back». Freedom is always perceived as an ideal, as well as a matter of course: we see in it only happy omens and suspect no pitfalls. Freedom is desirable, its absence almost scandalous. Yet it is neither free nor without danger. It is a burden that the individual must learn to bear, and which can play tricks on him. It's not simply a question of being free from external constraints, but of being responsible for ourselves at every moment of our lives.
