Debate on the idea of a tax cut in the canton of Vaud
Several Vaud institutions are launching a cantonal initiative proposing a 12% tax cut. Beyond the regional case, this initiative raises the question of the right tax rate. Philippe Miauton, Liberal-Radical member of the Grand Council and director of the Chambre vaudoise du commerce et de l'industrie (CVCI), and Arnaud Bouverat, Socialist member of the Grand Council and regional secretary of the UNIA union.
Le Regard Libre: The initiative committee points out that «over the past ten years, Vaud has accumulated more than 6.5 billion in profits (before closing operations) [...] despite an annual increase in operating expenses of some 3 %, which is significantly higher than the rise in the cost of living and population growth.» However, it may be legitimate for the State to have reserves to manage future crises.
