Judith Zagury: «As soon as there's a method, there's a danger in working with living beings»

Following our meeting with Laetitia Dosch about the revival of her show Hate, we wanted to find out more about Corazón (the horse in Hate), and the person who runs the place where he spent his life and was raised. So, on Wednesday June 19, your editor returned to Gimel to meet Judith Zagury, co-founder of the Shanju workshop-school. An actress and playwright, Judith kindly agreed to meet us over tea to answer our questions.

A short introduction to equestrian theater

Nowadays, the figure of the animal is making a comeback on our contemporary stages, whether through costumes or, more specifically, through real animals treading the boards. However, unlike in other eras, it would seem that these animals no longer question our humanity as mere mirrors, but are endowed with genuine human capacities, particularly in terms of relationships.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the «Shanju» workshop-school based in Gimel, in the middle of nature, we meet Laetitia Dosch, Franco-Swiss actress and director. A charming and welcoming person, she generously gave us some of her time to talk about the revival of her show Hate. It's a duet with a horse named Corazón, performed in 2018 at the Théâtre de Vidy, and revived from August 29 to September 1 in Gimel, to launch the new theater season.
