On Wednesday, the Valais cantonal government announced a series of drastic measures to combat Covid-19. Closure of clubs, cinemas and theaters, ban on contact sports, closure of cafés and restaurants at 10:00 p.m... Valais is the first canton to have launched this set of new measures, which almost all of French-speaking Switzerland has since put in place, each canton to its own taste. On Thursday, the UDC Valais issued a press release calling for a democratic debate on these new measures. In the eyes of the cantonal party, the interests of the population as a whole are not sufficiently represented, and other solutions to the problems of the pandemic exist. We talk to Cyrille Fauchère, President of the UDC Valais and municipal councillor in the town of Sion, where he is responsible for public safety.
