OASI vote: the editorial debate
AVS debat le regard libre
AVS 21: a fair and necessary project, or a sham? Our editor-in-chief Jonas Follonier and deputy editor-in-chief Antoine-Frédéric Bernhard give their differing opinions on the pension reform to be put to the vote on September 25.
The federal chambers have approved a reform aimed at guaranteeing the money available for pensions over the next ten years. According to the Confederation's projections, there will be a shortfall within the next ten years. The people will have to vote separately on two measures: the retirement of women at the same age as men (65), compared to 64 at present, and an increase of 2.4 points in the standard VAT rate and 2.1 points for the special rate. If one of the two proposals is rejected, the whole reform fails. We brought together the two members of our editorial team to compare their views on this subject.
