On Friday, the news caused an earthquake. Twelve employees of UNRWA in Gaza, the UN relief agency for Palestinian refugees, were accused by Israel of involvement in the massacres committed on October 7. In the words of Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), there is every reason to feel «horrified». In the immediate aftermath, the main donor countries, led by the United States (but also France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom), announced that they were suspending their contributions to UNRWA, which risks having to cease its activities «by the end of February», according to its statement.<
