Opening stores on Sundays: the editorial debate
The question of Sunday opening is one that comes up regularly, and one that is just as often a source of irritation. The two members of our editorial team wanted to cross swords and get straight to the point.
Should stores be allowed to open on Sundays?
Jonas FollonierYES. Opening stores on Sundays is not an end in itself. The general ban on working on Sundays is understandable for at least two reasons. On the one hand, there are cultural reasons, with an inevitable dose of arbitrariness, just as there are public holidays often linked to religious celebrations. Secondly, for reasons of worker protection: not only for employees, of course, but also for employers. Think of small businesses, where the owner-manager would easily be called upon seven days a week without the dom break.
