In his column, the former Federal Councillor shares a piece of reading that has made an impression on him. This month, he comments on an article in a Jesuit magazine about the American vice-president.

An article in the French magazine Les Etudes, published before the election of the American pope, explores with political scientist James Patterson the ideological underpinnings of U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance. Who is he really? Does he have a political future? Better structured than the President, but just as virulent, J. D. Vance attacks President Zelensky and makes no secret of his animosity, even contempt, for Europe. He has little personal charisma, but was very present during the first months of the second Trump presidency. No one disputes his intellectual solidity, forged in the course of a chaotic life. From a background close to poverty, he served in the Marine Corps.
