Boulimy Comedy Mardy

In Neuchâtel, the Théâtre du Passage opens its brasserie to French-speaking humor with the Boulimy Comedy Mardy. Five artists take turns performing an hour of stand-up raw and complicit, driven by a strong closeness with the audience - despite a more mixed reception in theatres.

One Tuesday a month, the brasserie at the Théâtre du Passage in Neuchâtel trades in its cutlery for spotlights and microphones. Since October, Le Passage has teamed up with the dynamiters of French-speaking Switzerland's comedy scene, Lausanne's Théâtre Boulimie, to offer series of stand-up of about ten minutes each, in an atmosphere a little more hushed than that of the usual comedy clubsthe Boulimy Comedy Mardy.

Five comedians take it in turns to take over the makeshift stage and come looking for the Neuchâtel crowd. More than just interpreting a text, testing out jokes or prowling scenes, they seize on the relaxed mood of the room to play with it and push the limits a little. It's clear that these artists are here in a spirit of open camaraderie, with each other and with the audience. And that's what makes these evenings so special.

On December 9, the Boulimy Comedy Mardy stage was shared between Laura Chaignat, Lucas Thorens, Lucas Vuilleumier, Yoanna Sallese and Lord Betterave. For an hour, the audience moved from one universe to another, and although they were very different, they all came together in one thing: a very in-your-face tone that constantly seeks out the audience. The result is an electric, friendly atmosphere, where the laughter is as intense as the glances, and where the closeness between stage and audience transforms each and every one of them. punchline in direct exchange. It's a no-holds-barred, no-nonsense evening, where humor is lived to the rhythm of the sputters: raw and alive.

So if this conviviality could be extended to the brasserie staff, it would be all the more delectable! For if this Tuesday was all about the bulimia of laughter at the theater, you'd think it was all about the anorexia of sympathy for them.
