As if its lacklustre sporting results weren't enough, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) finds itself in open conflict with Paris City Council over its stadium. And not just over money.
The media battle rages on between PSG (Paris Saint-Germain), Paris's iconic soccer club, and the French capital's mayor's office. The club, owned by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), complains of pressure from the city, whose mayor is the Socialist Anne Hidalgo, a presidential candidate last year.
At the heart of the conflict: the Parc des Princes. The 48,000-seat stadium is owned by the town council, which does not seem to want to part with it. PSG has already invested 85 million euros in the stadium, and is considering allocating a further 500 million to its modernization. Provided, of course, that it becomes the owner, which is not yet the case.
