Reindeer skins, Tundra and taxation of married couples
The new taxation of married couples could damage the family unit. That's the view put forward in this column. But to reach this conclusion, a detour to Arctic Siberia is in order.
I recently watched a documentary with my eldest daughter about nomadic life in the Arctic Tundra. Mother, father and their six children waking up one after the other in the family chum, then working for the common good. The mother melts snow in the pot for tea on the stove, the father cuts dried reindeer meat for breakfast, and the children, donning their long boots made of sewn reindeer skins, set the table or braid the hair of the youngest. Every evening, I now have to tell a story related to nomadic life, where the children sleep snuggled up to their parents in the tent.
