At a time when inclusion, tolerance and living together are the watchwords of the day, the world of sport has sometimes reflected an image that runs counter to current mores. With the tightening of anti-doping rules and additional measures aimed at ensuring full sporting equity, particularly in women's and para-sport disciplines, athletes of all genders and nationalities have been denied access to international competitions. All of them have taken legal action to restore their right to participate. Some have even appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), often in vain.
