A look at the news - Loris S. Musumeci

«But at the same time», he «wants to tell us: thank you», dear Monsieur Macron. After a Marine Le Pen's catastrophic performance at last Wednesday's debate, the new President of the Republic was elected without too much surprise.

Yes, whatever the bitter Lepénistes may now say, violent vacuity doesn't pay in France. Playing Trump is still not a good omen in the land of Racine, Hugo and Flaubert. Yet there was no shortage of good opportunities for the beautiful blonde, starting with a program radically opposed to that of her opponent. She could have focused on identity, workers« rights, agriculture or schools, all of which were intelligently and pragmatically outlined in her list of commitments. Instead, she sneered with »your socialist friends«, throwing imprecise darts at what the evil »globalist" stands for. One wonders if she didn't suddenly regret her eventual accession to the throne. Perhaps opposition simply suits her and her front better.

In any case, the game is now up. The progressive liberal is in power. Chance or disaster, the people have made their choice. A respectable one. And it's from this point on that young Emmanuel should be seen in a different light. He is no longer a proposition, but an elected one. Let the French put their trust in him. Despite the many criticisms that can be levelled at him, we must undeniably accept that this little fellow has managed to pull through.

Yesterday unknown, today president. Yesterday mocked, today adored. Macron's incredible evolution is clear. Perhaps he will succeed in elevating France as much as he has elevated himself. Who knows? Maybe he'll even reform Europe, as he claims for the time being. And what if, given his inordinate, even pathological ambition, the man from Amiens were to become its Emperor, from the Carpathian Mountains to the Portuguese coast? Napoleon Ier was crowned at the age of thirty-six. In the land of Gaul, surprises are just around the corner for this five-year term, and I dare to believe that there will be some good ones too.
