Five years after the translation of his previous novel, Peter Stamm returned to the literary scene this spring. This was the occasion for an interview in Morges, in the orientalist setting of the authors' space at the festival Le Livre sur les quais.

Le Regard Libre: In your latest novel, Les archives des sentiments, the narrator cuts out newspaper articles and collects them in his cellar, obsessed with the perfect arrangement of information and the world. A world in turmoil and characters seeking to escape this chaos: a theme that runs through all your work. But can you escape indefinitely, Peter Stamm?

Peter Stamm: No, only temporarily. It would be sad if we could really escape indefinitely. The narrator realizes that it's not possible to escape so easily. He begins to want to get out of this archival world, which is an arty world.
