Founder of the journal Commentaire, notably with Raymond Aron, Pierre Manent was for many years director of studies at EHESS. Now retired, the philosopher continues his rich intellectual work. We meet to discuss his latest essay, Pascal et la proposition chrétienne.

Pierre Manent's Histoire intellectuelle du libéralisme (Intellectual History of Liberalism), in which he sets out the historical and philosophical foundations of this school of thought, has become a classic. Many lovers of liberty have discovered the nuances and importance of freedom through his writings. In his new book, the focus is on an entirely different theme. Based on the writings of Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), the author invites us to better understand the impasses of the contemporary world. Interview on the fate of Europe, the place of Christianity and the state of the debate on ideas.
