It's well known that the European Union subcontracts the management of the migratory crisis in the Mediterranean to the tune of billions. Following similar agreements with Tunisia, Mauritania and Egypt, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on May 2 in Beirut a one-billion-euro aid package to support Lebanon's «socio-economic stability».

A quarter of this sum will go to the Lebanese army and coastguard, to step up the fight against illegal immigration. The rest is earmarked for dealing with the Syrian crisis. As the Lebanese Prime Minister told the media
