Merry Christmas to all «weak and wonderful men».»
Lonely woman sitting on a bench by the sea
«To you, weak and wonderful men, / Who put so much grace in withdrawing from the game / You need a hand on your shoulder / To push you towards life, / That tender and light hand.» Thus opens the best song in the world, Something from Tennessee. And so begins our special CHRISTMAS 2015 edition.
The festive season is the time when families get together and close the year in style, with a flood of love and optimism. And yet, at the very moment when we outline our plans for the coming year, when we look back on the great moments of our lives, when we marvel at the stories of others, there are those who suffer from their weakness, their old age, their illness, and above all, their loneliness. This is the moment when the man who has nothing (or believes he has nothing) is most aware of this nothingness.
May Christmas 2015 also be for all «weak and wonderful men». May they sing like Johnny Hallyday in 1973 in Forbidden Christmas«This is my Christmas, the first of my life, whose dream I am no longer forbidden to dream.»
This special edition Christmas 2015 is also the occasion to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Regard Libre. We've chosen to celebrate this anniversary by taking stock of the year and exploring the meaning of Christmas with State Councillor Philippe Leuba, philosopher François-Xavier Putallaz, theologian Félix Moser, former National Councillor Suzette Sandoz, pastors Nathalie Liard and Giovanni Catalanotto, and Abbé Michel Massy. On behalf of the entire editorial team, Merry Christmas!
