On my skin, Released in 2018, the film chronicles Stefano Cucchi’s suffering during his final days. In his direction, Alessio Cremonini chooses to make Stefano’s emotional experience and the conditions of his incarceration the central focus of the film. The opening shots of the young man’s face—stunningly realistic—are crucial in exposing the violence of the guards’ beatings from the moment he was taken into custody. Cremonini divides the film into specific days, with the narrative unfolding day by day, like a countdown to death. In this way, he shows that just six short days were enough to take Cucchi from agony to the coffin.

Even though the images of the actual body shown at the end of On My Skin révèlent que, malgré l’excellent maquillage et le jeu de l’acteur principal, le vrai Stefano était dans un état bien pire rien qu’à le voir. Il aurait fallu carrément des effets spéciaux pour transformer un acteur en un être si maculé et détruit.

Le 14 novembre 2019, après dix ans, l’affaire Cucchi prend fin. Les carabiniers Alessio Di Bernardo et Raffaele D’Alessandro sont condamnés à douze ans de prison ferme pour homicide volontaire. Contrairement à ses collègues, Francesco Tedesco n’est condamné qu’à deux ans et demi de prison ferme pour fausses déclarations et falsifications de preuves. Ilaria Cucchi parle d’une grande victoire, mais surtout d’un énorme soulagement.
