They are sometimes referred to as «prophets of the Apocalypse», or «unreasonable catastrophists». However, beyond the caricature, the proponents of this «science of collapse» have a very well-constructed, rational and interesting discourse.

«Let's be clear: by collapse, I mean a phenomenon which, in demographic terms, would see around half the world's population disappear in less than ten years,» explains former French Environment Minister under Chirac, Yves Cochet. This is undoubtedly the most radical thesis of his book Devant l'effondrement. Essai de collapsollogie, published in 2019. However, it would be reductive to leave it at that without taking a closer look at the findings and arguments that led the author to this conclusion.
