The sociology of gender usually presents men as the strong, dominant, self-confident sex, taking all the social advantages at the expense of women. Type the words «gender inequality» on the Internet and you'll see a series of graphs and figures flash before your eyes, supposedly proving in black and white that women are the eternal discriminated against. However, a detour into demography and criminology shatters this ubiquitous and all too rarely discussed cliché.
