The question is a serious one. Philosophers have wrestled with it. The major difficulty with a question of this magnitude is its inexhaustible mystery, and the frustration it provokes by never being able to provide a satisfactory answer. This article will therefore confine itself to a few reflections, inspired by masters.

Before asking what evil is, we need to question its very existence. Does evil exist in the same way as good? A Manichean view would say yes. Good would be built in opposition to evil; evil in opposition to good. The two would create a balance in their eternal confrontation. The power of good against the force of evil. The demons of evil against the angels of good.
