The richness of French song (4/6)

Le Regard Libre N° 16 - Jonas Follonier

To continue our series on the richness of French chanson, we're going to take a look at an unusual musical love affair that took place over the space of six years between two of the 20th century's great French chanson stars: Michel Berger and Véronique Sanson.

It all began in 1975. At the time, Michel Berger had only one real personal hit under his belt, the song Ecoute la musique, which was not all that well known to the general public (it wasn't until La Groupie du pianiste in 1980 that Berger really entered the canon of chanson). However, the singer-philosopher had just scored a major hit as a songwriter with La Déclaration d'amour, sung by France Gall.
