With her essay Féminicène, Véra Nikolski brings a breath of fresh air to a subject plagued by ideological opposition. The book focuses on the root cause of the favorable evolution in the status of women: the industrial revolution.

Le Regard Libre: According to you, we're living in the age of feminicene. How should we understand this concept?

Véra Nikolski: It's a neologism I formed from the word «anthropocene», which designates the age of man with a capital H, in other words, of humanity. A period during which we have left our mark on the environment with a multiplied imprint. There is some debate among geologists as to precisely when the Anthropocene began, but the most significant event was the Industrial Revolution, at the dawn of the 19th century. It was then that our lifestyles and our material environment began to change.
